We went slightly out of our way to stay again for 1 night at this entchanting Chateau. Because of our wish to have twin beds this time we were given a room on the top floor. The approach to the room is a bit poky and those rooms were definitely service quarters. The room was pretty and had a lovely view of the gardens, but quite small and the twin beds were not the most comfortable beds we have had. The hard long pillow is not for international traveler and one has to be used to those from childhood on I think. Last time we stayed on the first floor in a palatial room, full of antiques and wonderfully decorated. Sadly again the bed let that room down as it was a small double. Still, the rest of the hotel is charming and the food worse the small niggle about the room in the attic. After the delicious meal, served in a most discreet and professional manner, sleep came easy in the totally silent room. Breakfast was lovely, self-service style in a small room overlooking the entrance forecourt . There was absolutely nothing missing in the food choice offered and the coffee machine produced excellent coffee.

Charming corner room on the top floor. Gardens were really delightful. Chateau is impressive on the outside. Reasonable rates for twin and double room. We peeked at the suites and they were very nice with high ceilings but you pay 80% more. Besides the fantastic Oriental Gardens, this place has limited options and sights. Some parts of the chateau were run down. As a result, at night, the left wing foyer and stairs leading to the rooms are frankly a bit creepy. Perfectly fine at day time. But I have seen other chateaus in better condition. Had dinner here the first night. It was a popular option (not much else ppen outside) but I found the food was not as good as I expected with the exception of the fresh fig breads they served. Restaurant service was excellent.

We stayed for one night in this beautiful chateau, in a Prestige room which was spacious and grand. The reception area is attractive, the terrace at the rear beautiful with views over gorgeous gardens, and the dining room opulent. We had some drinks during the afternoon on the sun drenched terrace, lovely. Before dinner we met our friends in the small bar and went through for dinner, booked for 8pm. Having sat down in a bit overly busy restaurant we were ignored for 40 minutes which was tedious. No bread, no wine, no orders taken. Eventually the Maitre D took our orders and then we waited again for wine and bread. At 9.20 our starters came, but by then a more than obvious frostiness had developed with the sommelier which negatively impacted our meal. The food was excellent, although some items were mis described on the menu. Four gras starter, Filet de Boeuf, Canon of lamb, and Grand Marnier soufflé as well as the cheeseboard were excellent. Macon Lugny Lefaivre was good value, but finding a reasonable red was a bit more difficult, eventually settling on a 2013 Ch Rouget from Pomerol at €98, which once properly decanted, at the third time of asking, was excellent I won’t dwell on the service issue but it really does need attention, and overshadowed our meal Breakfast the next morning was lovely, with very helpful staff overseeing a quite comprehensive buffet, with special mention to some home made preserves. I would happily return but hope that restaurant service improves so as to match the quality of the food and architecture of the property.

We have stayed at Chateau Colbert before and returned with friends for an overnight stay en route up North. It is essential to book a Prestige room on the first floor to sample the elegance and have spacious accommodation. The chateau is located on a busy main road but once inside or in the garden, you can't hear a thing. There is a local bar immediately opposite the Chateau but the rest of the town looked extremely sleepy. Car parking is fine once through the very narrow metal gates and check in was quick and efficient. We joined our friends for drinks on the Terrace on a sunny afternoon in May and it was a delight. The inside bar is cosy too. We ordered from the A La Carte menu and it was reasonable value with some interesting choices. The food was extremely good. I started with the Sweetbreads and Langoustine's which came, unexpectedly, as a pate. This was somewhat bland but was saved by the delicious bread rolls that were readily available. Others in our group opted for the Asparagus, that was well received and the Foie Gras which was declared excellent. For main courses,we had a selection. The fish was delicate and the beef looked unctuous with a rich sauce. Most of us opted for the lamb and this was an excellent choice, cooked rose and to perfection. The cheese board was extensive and the Grand Marnier Souffles that seemed to be the main choice were delicate if a little too sweet for me. Where Chateau Colbert's restaurant fell short and this is why I have dropped it a star, is because of the service which was, initially dire until we said something. We sat for an interminable time before we were offered drinks or bread and then we waited and waited, almost to her point of being totally ignored, despite 4 or 5 members of staff running around with little or no direction. Things did pick up when brought to the attention of the staff but despite being entertaining as we were going past hunger, it impacted on the enjoyment of the dining experience. Would I return to Chateau Colbert, undoubtedly, but stock needs to be taken of the procedures and efficiency of the service and the graciousness of some of the staff when guests interact with them.
