“Relatively cheap and simple hotel, but clean, and quasi in center town”

been here overnight only, but it was nice to make a promenade in town. Restaurants were IN the road, and nice people around. We drove from Heddal to Skien, mostly along the fjordlike valley. At Heddal we visited the largest "Stavekirke" (Wooden Church) in Norway, really a great beauty!

Compared to the price this hotel is good value, but probably primarily for shorter stays as the interiors are a bit outdated and gives an institutional feeling. Good and basic breakfast.

“The snowploughs go past regularly”

I stayed here for two nights, and although there was nothing wrong with the hotel, you could call it utilitarian. The bed was fine, the room was fine, but just no trappings of comfort. I stayed here for two nights, and although there was nothing wrong with the hotel, you could call it utilitarian. The bed was fine, the room was fine, but just no trappings of comfort. I did have an en suite room, the bed was comfortable, but with no coffee/tea making facilities, and a room facing onto the main street, everytime the plough went up or down, the scraping of it on the road woke me up. And I can tell you that they work all night! Also worth bearing in mind that the hotel does no evening food, but there is several good choices within 5 minute walk. When I checked out, I left at four in the morning for the drive to Oslo, and the receptionist made me coffee and offered me some rolls for breakfast; above and beyond what I expected.

“Go there to sleep, expect nothing more!”

You have the choice between rooms with or wthout toilet/bathroom, which is fine, as long as you know it, especially considering the fact that toilet + bathroom are very clean (much cleaner than you would expect actually! so good points there). You have the choice between rooms with or wthout toilet/bathroom, which is fine, as long as you know it, especially considering the fact that toilet + bathroom are very clean (much cleaner than you would expect actually! so good points there). Rooms are very basic, where furniture looks like it's been taken from the street and thrown into the room. But it all looks old, used, and overall not very nice. On top of that, 2 out of 3 lamps did not work, giving it a very dark look, and neither did the TV (no signal). BUT, again, very clean, as is the bed, and that was the most important for me. Staff is OK nice, but a bit absent. It seems like there is only one lady taking care of the lobby, the breakfast room, taking plates off the tables etc... so don't expect too much either. And about the breakfast, again.... don't expect too much. So thumbs up for clean place, thumbs OK for pretty much everything else.

“Well located”

Well located in the centre of Skien. Everything within walking distance, train station 10 mins, bus station 2 mins, the excellent Skagerak Arena 10 mins. Not a luxurious hotel but I thought it was fine as a budget hotel, clean and comfortable. Excellent buffet breakfast with a wide choice. Their … lisää

Well located in the centre of Skien. Everything within walking distance, train station 10 mins, bus station 2 mins, the excellent Skagerak Arena 10 mins. Not a luxurious hotel but I thought it was fine as a budget hotel, clean and comfortable. Excellent buffet breakfast with a wide choice. Their staff let them down with no warmth or friendliness which is in stark contrast to everyone else I met in Skien.
