Have just had a lovely 3 nights here. We were with a group on a running weekend.We were greeted by the owner who took our packed lunch orders for the following day. Murray then took our bags up to our room for us. I shared a twin room which was very comfortable. Complimentary toiletries and fluffy towels were provided. The meals were excellent - both the presentation and the taste. Food allergies and dietary requirements were carefully noted. We had canapes with our drinks by the fireside and were well looked after by the friendly waiting staff. The location is perfect for a stay in the Cairngorm area - in the centre of Ballater.

“Nice place”

Friendly welcome and staff. Nice place with pretty surroundings. Fabulous breakfast. Only negative... Materess was hard and could feel every spring. Which gave me a bad nights sleep. Recommend new materess!

The Glen Lui is a very smart hotel in a pleasant woodland location at the edge of the golf course. There is ample parking and it is only a 10 minute stroll to the village centre. The Glen Lui is a very smart hotel in a pleasant woodland location at the edge of the golf course. There is ample parking and it is only a 10 minute stroll to the village centre. The furnishings and decor of the lounge and dining areas are top class, and it is clear that the owners are passionate about providing top service. Our room was also beautifully decorated and, although a wee bit on the small side, it was very comfortable and well appointed. Breakfast was served in the lovely dining room overlooking the gardens, and the serving staff has the style and profession manner that matches the style of the hotel. We both chose variations of the cooked breakfast and it was very good, with quality ingredients well cooked and nicely presented. This is the first time that we have stayed here and we would certainly do so again.

In a great setting but looking really tired both in the communal areas and the bedrooms. Not a lot of atmosphere and the average age of guests was 80. Useful for the village but needs urgent updating if it’s going to keep up with some of the new hotels in the area . Whole place could do with closing and a refurb.
