Beautiful luxurious hotel The hotel is stunning and the staff very friendly and welcoming We stayed for 14 nights on the ground floor in a beautiful quiet room . We were all inclusive and the food was amazing- we ate at the shack and you chose your fish then they cook it fresh and you dine in stunning surroundings- special mention to Rashan who was so attentive and kind . The Chinese was the best Chinese we have ever had but our fav place was the palms buffet ! We ate here for breakfast lunch and dinner - 2 of our party are vegetarian and the huge choice of delicious dishes was out of this world - special mention to the fresh naan ! Our waiter Sam made our holiday so special - he always anticipated our needs and had our drinks waiting for us ! We looked forward to seeing him and his friendly face and warm kindness . We will never forget him . The pool is stunning- surrounded by palm trees , we always got there at 2 pm after the beach and the pool guys always found us 4 sun beds - they work so hard , The beach is stunning and the sea warm like a bath with pure white sand , We ate at the restaurants over the railway tracks a couple of times and it was fun having the trains go by . Had a fantastic trip to Galle , great river boat trip on the bentota river where we fed monkeys in the trees and saw elephants at the safari ! Lots of tuktuks outside the hotel to take you to see the golden Buddha or any restaurants Evenings were spent at the tease bar - they had live music every other night and the cocktails were superb - especially the ginger passion ! Again the staff were superb ! We also enjoyed the pool table , table tennis and table football Over all - would highly recommend the Taj Beautiful surroundings Incredible food Amazing staff ( especially Sam )!!

Lovely hotel, room recently renovated and had a great view over gardens to the sea, room kept immaculately clean daily. All the staff so cheerful and friendly, nothing was too much bother. We were on bed and breakfast but had most lunches at the hotel, service excellent especially from Asiri, he worked so hard at every meal service and was always happy and chatty. There are quite a few restaurants within a short walk of the hotel all offering good food at reasonable prices. Would definitely recommend the Taj to anyone visiting Sri Lanka

“Very nice hotel in need of some TLC”

This hotel is very nice indeed, with tremendous views from the rooms and a great , stylish pool area. However, for a so called 5* it needs some tender loving care with it's decor in parts. This hotel is very nice indeed, with tremendous views from the rooms and a great , stylish pool area. However, for a so called 5* it needs some tender loving care with it's decor in parts. The sunbeds are lovely and comfortable with mattresses and large towels, all set up by the pool attendants. My issue was the beach, it's beautiful but guests have to pay for their sunbeds! This is not what happens in 5* hotels anywhere else in the world. The rooms are magnificent, the chocolates in the evening etc are a lovely touch of class. The food was good but not as good as some of the other 5* hotels we had been to in Sri Lanka. The snack menu around the pool is excellent, the food is beautiful. On arrival we were told we could use the Orchid restaurant even though we were half board so long as we didn't order prawns, lobster or tenderloin, we did that and it was superb, however, we were presented with a huge bill of 33000 rupees!! £86!!! They knocked off 3000 rupees for our half board and gave us the bill for the rest. We refused to pay it as we were misled and they duly took off the full cost, which was dealt with professionally and hassle free. A big shout out to the young lad who served us in The Orchid restaurant, his name was something like MAROUSH , but not sure, he worked on the 9th March in the evening, he deserves full praise for excellent manners and service, thank you👍👍 Overall the hotel was very good but just that bit short of a 5* for me, maybe 4.5* 😀😀. The staff were absolutely amazing throughout, lovely people who can't do enough for you , as all Sri Lanka people seem to be👍
