“Great hotel in Taipei but need to improve their environmental policy”

Before my recent stay at The Landis Taipei, I already had very fond memories. I stayed at the same hotel, named The Ritz Taipei, around 12 to 15 times from 1984 to the early 1990's. Taipei is now a very different city from 40 years ago, but The Landis is still very familiar to me. The rooms have been refurbished, and they are very comfortable with a good desk area and sitting area etc. The lobby and Brasserie restaurant still look very much the same as 40 years ago. This is a good thing - it doesn't look dated, and is still in the timeless art deco style, including the Erte figurine "Angel" that featured in the lobby then, and is still there now. I was very happy to see her there after all those years. The service at The Landis is excellent. But the service at The Ritz Taipei all those year ago was even better. More friendly and personal than now. That is why The Ritz Taipei was my favourite hotel when I regularly traveled to Hong Kong, South Korea and Taiwan. I would definitely recommend The Landis if you are visiting Taipei, but if you can get a booking at The Ritz, it would be even better. :) With that said, I have an issue with The Landis' policy regarding in-room amenities, such as a tooth brush, moisturizer, shower cap etc. I believe recent government legislation prevents them from providing such items by default, as it is wasteful and not environmentally friendly. That's fine by me, as I rarely use them and I am happy to support the environmental objective. My issue is that The Landis solution is not to provide you with an item you may need on request, but to sell you an amenity pack that includes everything. This is not good for the environment, when you only need one item and everything else is wasted. My real issue is that The Landis promote this as if they are saving the environment, which I find very hypocritical when they are profiting from their environment policy, yet creating unnecessary waste due to their policy. I would be interested to hear their justification if they can avoid using terms like "overall consumption is reduced". It could easily be reduced even more if you simply provided guests with their needs and not an entire package where 90% is wasted.

“Great location and restful sleep.”

Our family of 4 (two adults and two teenagers) had a good experience at this hotel. Great location at the MRT station (Zhongshan), convenient to several night markets, taipei 101 and other tourist spots. Easy check - staff were friend and efficient. We had two executive rooms - with king bed and lounge area. Furniture, linen were clean and well maintained. Comfortable bed, very quiet despite being in the heart of the city. Easy walk to plenty of dining options. We didn't get the breakfast package for the room - plenty of places nearby to grab a coffee and breakfast We watched the NYE fireworks at taipei 101 from the comfort of our room. Only negative - the carpets in both rooms were absolutely filthy - doesn't appear that any attempt had been made to clean them. . . recommend either clean the carpet or replace with hard surface options (wood/tile/even linoleum). May seem picky - but take a look at the pictures and decide for yourself. . . definitely wear the provided slippers!
