A short 25 minute drive to where the race started, it was a great location. On our arrival at Hotel Schloss Sonnenburg we immediately felt enveloped into a warm family. We were living in the lap of luxury but we felt as comfortable as though we were at home. Friendly yet supremely professional, the staff set the convivial atmosphere. Always a tough choice whether to hit the slopes or to snuggle into a cozy corner, in front of an open fire, knowing attentive company could be found. From a touch-light procession through the enchanting village to an evening soirée, you can be as involved as you wish in the family friendly hotel activities. We were fortunate enough to receive a guided tour of the hotel by our Host, Gunter Knoetig, who amazed us with the history and tales of this wonderful medieval building. Service is exemplary, professional but never stuffy. Staff uniforms replaced by dirndls enhances the authenticity of this pretty castle. Always at hand and willing to help, they ensured our stay exceeded all expectations. A shuttle bus is provided to the nearby slopes at regular intervals throughout the day, and a there is a spacious ski room to dry equipment over night. Every meal is a delight. The phenomenal cuisine, includes a relaxed breakfast buffet that sets you up for the slopes and a magnificent dinner on return, fit for a king! Afternoon tea is provided for those who opt for a spa day. The spa, which is a sublime haven of sybaritic delights, welcomes all ages and is immaculately clean like the rest of the hotel. The towels always fresh and folded, with sparkling water and healthy snacks constantly available. It is these refined touches which make Hotel Schloss Sonnenburg an unforgettable experience. While the hotel is enchanting amidst snow, I look forward to enjoying my breakfast, basking in the tranquil views of the mountains in Spring time. This will most definitely not be my last visit to this wonderful castle - we are already booked in for next year!

This is my second trip to the Hotel. I have visited both during the hot summer months in August, and during the beginning of January, to celebrate New Year and go skiing. I shall continue to keep coming back as is it is the most spectacular hotel I have ever been to; and couldn't be more perfect for both summer time or winter time - its a place that can be visited all year round! The hotel has absolutely everything you could ever need. The sauna and spa facilities, which are perfect after a long day of skiing or a mountainous hike. I even went on a few morning runs around the hotel, which offers the most spectacular views, and used the perfectly equipped gym facilities to work off the delicious food! My massage was also a real treat; the masseur had magic hands, and was so charming. The level of service that I received for both of my stays was phenomenal; the staff were so welcoming, and so attentive, ensuring I was totally satisfied. The authenticity of the hotel is gorgeous, and the staff's traditional uniforms really add extra character to your stay. The Hotel has the perfect mix of luxury and tradition, I cannot fault it! I could not write a review without mentioning the delicious food that the Hotel offers, which all guests spend eating sat in one of the many gorgeous dining rooms, each with individual character and with views fetching across mountains. Breakfasts involve the most enormous buffet with an outstanding array of choice, from bircher museli, fresh fruit and yoghurt, to meats, cheeses, different breads and homemade juices and jams. One of my favourite extras that the hotel offers in the afternoon is their special afternoon tea, with a variety of cakes, cold cut meats and cheeses, perfect to keep you going until dinner! Suppers are lavish and similarly cater to everyone's needs. With courses of unbelievable food, from locally sourced regions and beautiful presentation. The pudding table that comprises almost hundreds of sweet treats is one of my absolute favourites - would be rude not to try one of each? Lastly, the rooms are faultless, so tastefully decorated, very roomy, and incredibly comfortable! They are cleaned daily, and left in immaculate condition. I love the addition of the bath robe and slippers to sneak off to the spa in, relax in the hotel grounds with a good book, or by one of the swimming pools! Thank you so much for having me to stay, for your gorgeous family-run hotel, full of history, character and so much charm! I'll be booking my third visit very soon!

We visited Sonnenburg for four days in early October. Hotel is former castle with 30-40 rooms which makes the hotel very cosy. Wellness area is very spacious and nicely varied. It has an outer sauna with great view on the mountains and very cosy rest area. Dinner in the evening includes several courses. Food was excellent at all times. Wine selection is very broad and fairly priced. Service is good and attentive. Definitely recommended if you want to spent a couple of relaxing days with great food and excellent variety on recreational activities (hiking, golf etc). Thanks we will come back.
