Sad to see tge hotel close through lack of business. The ballroom was great for weddings and conferences. The restaurant was passable. They used to have an outside bar that was nice. The suites were excellent and the lobby impossing. To many rooms, not enough customers resulting in closure. Still … more

Sad to see tge hotel close through lack of business. The ballroom was great for weddings and conferences. The restaurant was passable. They used to have an outside bar that was nice. The suites were excellent and the lobby impossing. To many rooms, not enough customers resulting in closure. Still it might reopen as flats or an hotel. Keep trying. They might renovate it as well. Find memories.

“A grand old lady, a bit neglected but good value with a touch of grandeur”

This hotel must have been the pride of the city when new; the staff told me (in Thai) it was more than ten years old, but it has the look of the 1970s or 1980s and still looks very impressive. The construction is very solid, it has a grand lobby and dining room and the bedrooms are larger than found in most newer hotels. The worn carpets and some decaying plaster show that the owners don't spend much on maintenance, but it still has a lot of character that has appeal for older travellers like me. The hotel has a good central location, about 150m from a shopping plaza which has a supermarket in the basement (there is a good cheap Thai restaurant on the left side of the road about halfway to the plaza). Across a canal in the opposite direction is the very good White Elephant Restaurant. My room ( no.219) was quite big and had a very comfortable double bed, where I got a really good sleep after the hard beds in some other places. The air conditioning worked well and was not too noisy, but the TV was an old CRT model with Thai channels only. If you want some news, they have the Bangkok Post and The Nation in a nice sitting area near reception. The room was very clean, the furniture was good quality although showing its age, and the wifi was free but quite slow. There was a bar fridge with two free bottles of water daily. There were two reading lights above the bed. The bathroom was clean and ' shower in bath' style; the hot water took a long time to come through and a lot of water was wasted while waiting. The tiles were a bit discoloured but otherwise in good condition with no cracks or gaps. The dining room looks quite grand, and the complimentary breakfast was a pleasant surprise. You order from a menu of Thai and Western dishes, help yourself to coffee or tea then wait for your choice to be served at your table. I had boiled rice soup and an omelette, and it was nice to get a freshly made omelette instead of one that had been simmering away in a buffet container. And then, without being asked, the waiter brought me some fresh toast and jam and glasses of ice water, milk and ' orange juice' (not fresh juice). These grand old hotels have a charm that appeals to some oldies like me (the Kosa Hotel in Khon Kaen is another hotel of this type, but much better maintained). The Roi Et City Hotel is good value at B889 including breakfast. It was very quiet at night, and most of the 100+ rooms were empty. There is lots of free parking near the entrance. Regarding the town of Roi Et, there are quite a number of bars (including one named 'Boozer') in a row a few km from the hotel on the road to Kalasin. Also on this road was the biggest rubbish dump I've ever seen.

“Okay Hotel in a good location”

The Roiet City Hotel is okay. The rooms are okay, and the place could use a face lift. Nothing to do in the hotel, but has a free buffet breakfast. No swimming pool. Just behind the hotel is a restaurant called The White Elephant which I enjoyed.
