“Wonderful, relaxing stay”

Thanks Melia for a wonderful stay. Just back from my first ever solo trip and I couldn't have felt more at ease or welcomed by this beautiful hotel and it's lovely staff. I'll try and touch on the main points for me. Breakfast: great choice, chef working hard making omelettes freshly, plenty of choice although I mainly stuck with the omelettes. Sparkling wine too if it's not too early for you. Never too crowded or stressy although the later you leave it, naturally it will get busier. Room service: used twice when was too tired from walking around all day, and it was delicious and good value. Room: twin room with side sea view for single occupancy. As you can imagine I had loads of space. The room and bathroom were both ample sized, comfortable and temperature very easy to control. I have slept so well on this holiday as the room at night is perfect for me: quiet, dark, perfect temperature and spotlessly clean. Fridge is adequate for a bottle of wine, small milk and keeping your daily free bottle of water cool if you remove 2 of the little white shelves. Restaurants: Splendida, a 2 minute walk from the hotel, is delicious and made me feel so welcome. I was nervous about eating dinner out alone for the first time ever, but didn't need to be. Also Leeno's in the opposite direction next to sea, a 5 minute walk, is lovely. Both are seafood but with other choices. Day trips: I booked 2 trips through Viator, one was a levada walk and the other was a 2 day tour round the island. Both great value and got some stunning photos. It's the kind of place where it's hard to take a bad photo! Can't think of much else I need to say here but ultimately would I stay again? Yes, I absolutely would and hope to. Agree almost entirely with Joanne H's comments before This was our seventh visit to Funchal and this hotel more than met our expectations It was certainly better than a more expensive neighbouring hotel last year. I felt breakfasts were excellent and tables were easy to be found.Unlike other hotels we had stayed in there was no problem accessing anything at any servery[great omelettes Hari] There was also a good selection for all dietary needs and plenty of healthy choices. All the staff were friendly throughout the hotel and a special thank you to Vanda,Carla and Laura for making our trip extra special

“Attentive service, convenient rooms, great food, nice pools”

We spent our holidays in this hotel and had a great experience. Exceptionally friendly staff, great variety of breakfast, all the areas and rooms are very clean, amazing ocean view, very nice pools and other amenities. Hotel has underground garage.

Our first visit to Madeira, and we had a fabulous week for many reasons. The Melia was one of these reasons...on arrival we were greeted warmly and made to feel very welcome. Room 537 was spacious with the most amazing view of the coastline and pool with large balcony ( we had paid for this room type ). The room was clean and had all that was needed, hair dryer, bottled water that was replenished daily, fridge with chargeable items, robes, ample storage space, USB points next to the bed and much more, the shower was fab and there was a full bath too, and as a fan of Rituals, I was delighted to see the hotel provided these in the bathroom! We stayed B&B as had been advised that there were so many places to eat locally and in the old town - breakfast was sufficient and very well presented and kept well stocked and clean, hot drink machines and toasters on hand to supplement the buffet and waiting staff offering tea/coffee, and every other day the marvellous pancake making machine! Breakfast did have busy times, and a couple days made worse due to a large group which I think was a conference, they did appear and take over but we managed to find table each morning between 9-10am. My only feedback would be, as a 5* hotel I do feel guests should be directed to a free table, rather than having to wander around looking, it felt intrusive on others eating their breakfast - this is my own personal preference and did not detract from the stay. The pool bar was a gem, staff very lovely, and we had both snacks and drinks here most afternoons. We used the bar in the evenings near reception a few times after our return to the hotel after a meal out, and it was again served with a smile and all drinks and snacks were very reasonably priced. There were some nights with low key music entertainment, which wasn't really watched by many, and I did feel sorry for the performers, however, the area was quite atmosphere lacking and dark, maybe with more people in the summer it is located in other more inviting areas of hotel. Our room was cleaned very well daily and towels/sheets changed if we requested daily, otherwise it was each 3 nights - environmental policy. A huge plus is lots of lifts, that worked the whole stay and were quick, so no long queues! There are taxis near to the entrance of the hotel, which we used a few times, approx. 8euros in to old town, 12 euro to Câmara de Lobos. There were plenty of buses, which did look very busy but frequent. We did walk to the Old town on few occasions, about 45mins each way, but a lovely walk with much to see along the way and several routes to take, the whole area it is very steep in places, and lots of steps but so worth it to see all that Funchal has to offer. Forum shopping centre is about 10 minutes walk away, Spar shop opposite, lots of restaurants a stone throw away, and couple minutes for access to the promenade for walks in each direction. Whilst the Melia is smaller and less grand than some of its neighbours, the staff service, the cleanliness, the lovely pool and no fighting for sunbeds was such a bonus. We are already looking to return and would stay at the Melia without a second thought. We did look at other hotels whilst walking around but we were very happy with our stay and look forward to returning! On checkout, again the lovely reception ladies were so helpful and cheery. I have stayed in many places around the world and I can honestly say, this is up there with the best service received and its lovely to experience that and not have a negative time whilst on a much needed holiday.
