Being a lifelong wanderer and having travelled to Rome more times than I can count, I wanted a different experience this time. I usually stay around Piazza Navona, which is lovely and central, but my love for Italian cinema brought me to the Pigneto area on my visit last Oct.for a few hours of shooting photos and visiting Cafe Necci. I found the area very urban, gritty and edgy sort of like the old East Village before it got poshed out or some areas of Brooklyn that are still full of street art and real Brooklynites. I decided to spend a few days in the Pigneto on this visit and I scored big by staying in just the right spot with just the right host. This place is at ground zero Pigneto, a two minute walk to the fragrant street cars or crowded buses and less than that to Via del Pigneto, the Lincoln Road so to speak of Pigneto. This area is just a tram ride away from the oh so crowded monuments and tourist areas of Rome, so people here don't have "tourist fatigue". When they talk to you at the restaurants, stores, bars and cafes they are real and fully engaged in the conversation and I had some interesting conversations. Enjoying a drink at "happy hour" on Via del Pigneto, it seems like the whole neighborhood goes by, getting off work, doing a little shopping, taking the kids to the playground, walking their dogs and then stopping by for their own happy hour. This is a very diverse neighborhood with a large African and Indian/Bangladeshi population. We had the only en suite at the B&B. It was large and clean with shuttered windows that opened up to a courtyard. It was very quiet and cool with the windows opened. The bathroom was also very clean and large. We did not hear any other noise and I originally thought we were the only guests until I saw the guests from the other rooms come out in the morning for coffee and the simple breakfast that was served. We only wanted coffee and toast, but were also offered cheese and ham. The coffee was hot and strong and the toast was served with butter and jam. Giorgio was a wonderful host. We did not have too many questions since I was pretty familiar with the rest of Rome. His English was pretty near perfect, no problems. I did not meet his partner. The balcony was beautiful as was the rest of the B & B decorated with original works of art Giorgio had collected over the years. The kitchen was spotless. We did not cook. There were many affordable food options within a few blocks. The cafe down the street had wonderful cappuccino and pastries and the pizza directly across the street was to die for. We found a cafe that specialized in vermouth drinks on Via del Pigneto and and had the best negronis I had ever had there. The two bars and cafes we enjoyed happy hours at served free noshes with the drinks and some good conversations. Who could ask for more? Not me. I had a great time. Thank you Giorgio!!

“Nice B&B”

This is a nice B&B with very friendly staff. It's a bit far away from all the main attractions but you can take a tram or a bus to the Termini train station and other sites. The negatives: thin walls and the breakfast doesn't offer great variety. All in all, I would recommend this place for a coupl… more

This is a nice B&B with very friendly staff. It's a bit far away from all the main attractions but you can take a tram or a bus to the Termini train station and other sites. The negatives: thin walls and the breakfast doesn't offer great variety. All in all, I would recommend this place for a couple or friends traveling together.

“Fairly good location, good hospitality”

B&B is quite far away from the city centre, but you can take a direct bus 81 which connects you with all main attractions. B&B is quite far away from the city centre, but you can take a direct bus 81 which connects you with all main attractions. There is a street with lots of pubs and wine houses very close to the hostel. Owner very nice and helpful - definitely a huge plus! I read on booking.com that breakfasts are good - unfortunately it was small (no vegetables, just toast with jam or basic ham + cheese) and the coffee was cold! (very disappointing especially in Italy). In the end we ate all the breakfasts in the city. Price doesn't include Rome tax, so be careful while calculating your budget.

You feel very welcome at Abitazinone Pigneto as the owners care about your stay with them. Good beds, nice rooms. Not in the center but rather easy to reach by tram from Termini. The area is a bit rough in the night, but many restaurants in the area. Breakfast does not impress me, a few more items … more

You feel very welcome at Abitazinone Pigneto as the owners care about your stay with them. Good beds, nice rooms. Not in the center but rather easy to reach by tram from Termini. The area is a bit rough in the night, but many restaurants in the area. Breakfast does not impress me, a few more items or better bread would be more satisfied. Overall I enjoyed my stay.
