Having had our meal here spoilt by flies whilst eating outside last summer, I returned this time eating inside. A comfortable dining room, with a serious atmosphere which include the efficient but rather unsmiling staff - who none the less gave good service. Feeling greedy had two starters. The first ' Fillet of Red Mullet with Shallot Tart' - very good dish with little extra's like a shell-on langoustine & half a dozen freshly-cooked mussels. Tart was a miniature shallot tarte tatin.. Second starter - Tete de Veau - excellent, with whole slither of tongue and a salad with crispy breadcrumbs cleverly interlaced with salad leaves; the kitchen had gone to a lot of care and thought. Main course [ Veal Kidneys in a creamy sauce. Well-cooked kidney pieces (still a little pink) - the sauce would have been further improved with a little mustard & cognac. Served with braised chicory and a good potato gratin.Pud - Profiteroles. Two profiteroles, OK, but spoilt but mountains of foamy aerosol cream (rather than filled with simple double cream The main minus point - and an important one was that if I had been with a vegetarian, there was only one option Cepe Omelette at 15 euros - not good enough in this day and age!

On the A20, lunchtime, drove in to the centre villa and asked a local, yes, the Hotel de France has a very good restaurant. True enough. Sometimes in France the quisse de canard can be a bit, um, dry, but hers was juicy and delicious. My rumsteak was great, and perfectly cooked, medium-rare (à pointe), Baked potatoes! We ate well and were on our way, thank you very much.

“Perfect for what we needed”

We are a young couple (19&22) backpacking Europe & stayed here 1 night. Perfect for a base. The room was small yet sufficient and clean. Sink & tv in room, shared bath = €42. Friendly staff. Not 24h check in (after 12midday) otherwise door locked. 2 min walk to train station. 20mins taxi from airpo… lisää

“Average no more”

The bad news - it's opposite a park where prostitutes hang out leaving their kids by the swings. The rooms are a bit dated and its a good half hour walk to both old towns. Limoges is not very touristy. Parking is first come first serve outside on the street. The bar is not open beyond 9 pm. Their i… lisää

The bad news - it's opposite a park where prostitutes hang out leaving their kids by the swings. The rooms are a bit dated and its a good half hour walk to both old towns. Limoges is not very touristy. Parking is first come first serve outside on the street. The bar is not open beyond 9 pm. Their is no lift. The good news - the owner is very pleasant and helpful. The rooms are comfy and clean.
