Based in a leafy,quiet business district just a short walk or tram ride from downtown Prague, the Galerie Royal is a great base for a visit to this beautiful city. The first great thing is that you are only a 3 or 4 minute walk from the metro or tram stops. Between the metro station and the hotel, you also pass a selection of convenient businesses including a very nice Italian restaurant, bakery, shoe shop, fast food establishment, bank and more. Opposite the hotel is also a very good supermarket, "Albert", with all you need in groceries, very tasty fresh bakes in the morning and cheap beer as a bonus. Had some very tasty brews for around 10-20czk. There are also some lovely bars and restaurants located nearby. Back to the hotel. The Galerie Royal is a very smart looking building from the outside and continues its look throughout. The reception and dining area are very nice and comfortable. The reception staff speak excellent English and check in was very efficient. No big problem, but just be aware there is a tourist tax that we were unaware of that is charged upon check in. Only €0.90 per person per night but better to know. The room were had was very nice with enough space for 2 and a balcony to sit out on. No view but peaceful. Room had a mini bar,good size desk and a tv with a lot of channels,although the only english speaking one was an Asian business channel. At least the music channels were good. The bed was a bit too firm for us but not terrible, although the pillows were not great at all. Very thin and floppy. The double bed also had 2 single duvets instead of 1 double. Quite annoying but we got used to it. We did mention this on a comment card left by the housekeeper which did ask if there was anything she could do to improve or stay. She didn't respond or change the duvet situation, so I don't know If they don't use double duvets or not. The only other slightly annoying thing was the shower in the bathroom. It was a hand held one only with no shower curtain either. Needed to be bit careful to avoid soaking the floor. Water wasn't very hot for first 2 days also, but not dreadful. Breakfast was wonderful. A great selection of cereals,fruit,breads,cheeses,cold meats,hot meats,eggs,salads and more. Very very nice. All in all I would definitely recommend this hotel and would stay again.
