We spent a night there in August on our way between Flam and Niggarsbreen. We stayed in 2 superior 1899 rooms. Rooms were very comfortable, well decorated. We had dinner and breakfast, and both were excellent. Lastly everyone there were incredibly nice and trying to help. We were there when flooding happened and some roads we needed to take next day were closed. The owner was kindly helping us and recommending alternative routes. Lastly, they have a small shop with very well selected items, good quality at normal price; XWe bought quite a nice sweater there. completely recommend.

“Lovely dinner in historic hotel”

We only came for dinner, but had a great time. We were the only couple in the restaurant and were seated in a lovely room with historic books and pictures. The fixed menu was great with more food than we could eat, and the staff did everything they could to make us feel welcome.

On our travel between Oslo and Bergen Norway, we spent one night in this town and at this hotel. It was a very positive experience. It’s a quiet town for sure, The rooms are large with lots of light and well appointed. The staff are very helpful and the location is great. Grocery and postal across the street. There is very limited restaurant/bar service in this town. In fact, I am not sure there is a restaurant. We were part of a group of about 23 people so we had an arranged dinner at the hotel, which was very good. The morning included breakfast was good. However, it was the only breakfast served during our 24 days of travel where there was no fruit available as part of the breakfast. None. That’s not a dealbreaker, but it was disappointing as both my wife and I usually have fruit for breakfast. This is a beautiful location. There was two waterfalls we could see from the hotel. I’m one of these travelers that likes to stay in hotels where you can open the window and get fresh air. That’s the case here. However, as is common when you do that, you can expect some road noise. That’s just the way it is in most hotels in most cities.
