“Really excellent!”

A seasoned hotelier once told me not to eat in a hotel as it was never good. BUT not true here. First, we were delighted when we asked if the music could be turned down. No grumpy response, they just turned the volume down. And the food was delicious and the service excellent. Thanks.

“Warm, welcoming.”

This hotel is in the heart of Bristol and near the river. The hotel feels very warm and welcoming, check in was very nice, with polite staff. This hotel is in the heart of Bristol and near the river. The hotel feels very warm and welcoming, check in was very nice, with polite staff. The hotel has a grand feel, and has a nice steak restaurant and bar. Rooms are spacious, tea, coffee, water and a little gift because of my membership status. I used the Exec lounge, small and tucked away but well equipped and nice food during certain periods. Highly recommend.

Positives: Great location Comfortable bed Clean throughout Lovely waitress in restaurant. Very busy but all restaurant staff rushed off their feet and still managing to be efficient and pleasant Good breakfast Negatives: Slow service at reception. During check-in we weren't told by Ajay that we had access to the Executive lounge. I later saw the lounge and queued back at reception for 15 minutes to ask whether we had access as staying in a suite. The woman on reception this time was able to confirm that to be the case and apologised that we weren't advised this on check in. She explained we were able to there access evening canapés, beverages and have our breakfast in the lounge. She also had to activate our room key for access to the lounge. Why was none of this advised/done on check in? We could have missed out had I not noticed the lounge and asked. Ajay who checked us in didn't even give us the WiFi information card that we later found out when I asked for the WiFi code at reception was supposed to be included with our key cards. Again the woman had to provide this and apologise. Basically Ajay who checked us in was useless. He couldn't even be bothered to look at me when I was talking to him. Bar staff ignoring customers waiting, can't even be bothered to acknowledge you and advise they'll be with you shortly. We were awkwardly stood there while the guy mixed a cocktail in front of us saying nothing. Overall some good points hence the 4 out of 5 rating, but really lacking some basic customer service skills in some employees who need retraining.

Breakfast not great and not worth the money. This is the second time we have stayed here and love it because of the location. Few things missed the mark this time however. Parking on site is extremely tight and barely fitted the car in.I surprised how much it costs to park and there were no concessions for paying guests. The breakfast was disappointing this time. Food was not that good. But the main thing was the service or lack of it. Plates were not taken from tables, everything seemed to be running out. This restaurant was busy and staff seemed to be working extremely hard but they could just not seem to cope with the demand that that hotel should be able to accommodate. Don’t know if this was understaffing or organisation but was left dissatisfied considering this is a fairly expensive addition.
