“Great hotel”

Stayed here for 3 nights at the end of October. Had a great stay, lovely clean room, professional polite staff and great food. We ate in the pub and restaurant and loved the meals and service. Stayed here for 3 nights at the end of October. Had a great stay, lovely clean room, professional polite staff and great food. We ate in the pub and restaurant and loved the meals and service. Enjoyed the bar at little too much, but please add some more cocktails to your menu. Hats off to Shelly, a credit to the hotel. Great location for visiting the lakes and only a 5 minute drive from Kendal town centre, we will return.

Visited for one night during the October half term holidays and we had a great time! I picked this hotel based on the location, which is closed to both the motorway and the lakes, but its main draw was the pool, free parking and breakfast which was included in the price. The room was comfortable, with everything we required. I found the bed really comfortable (nice and firm) and had a great night's sleep. The room was very hot though and I had to turn the electric heater off as the thermostat would not go low enough! The bathroom was quite small with not much space when getting out of the shower, however the shower was one of the best I have experienced in a hotel. The water was lovely and warm and the shower head was high (no crouching down to get under the shower head as I often have to do even though I'm only 6'2"!) There are two on site food options for dinner. We had booked the main restaurant next to the reception, but on arrival we had a look at the menu and it looked a bit fancy for the kids. The lady on reception changed our booking to the pub (The Alexander) for us and we really enjoyed our meal there. The pub has a cisy atmosphere and the burgers were lovely! We used the pool on the first day which as it was a weekend day had no restrictions. During the week you have to book and so we didn't bother. The pool is quite small but but was fine for us. It was quiet when we were in it but during busy times it may feel a bit small. It is also quite deep, 1.5m with no shallow end. There is also a steam room. We really enjoyed the breakfast. There was plenty of choice mostly, although the kids would have liked more pastries! A thoroughly enjoyable stay on the whole and I would definately visit again in the future!

“Something Good, something Bad!”

The room is very warm & cosy. The room is very warm & cosy. All the staff is so friendly and helpful, I mean ALL , reception, restaurant, room service, gym etc. Shelly is brilliant in the restaurant and Duncan cooks a lovely breakfast every morning. One downside is the food in the evening, despite the kitchen tried to cook something different some of the dishes were not really of the quality as expected. Eg. Slow cook belly pork and the salmon. On the other side the mussels were cooked to perfection.

“Never again”

Went for Sunday lunch at Alexanders. Never again. 1. Parking not well designed so we watched from the window as cars attempted to get in and out of spaces with not enough turning area. 2. Ordered a meal and drinks. There were 2 other people in the restaurant at the time. After waiting some time, I had to go and remind the bar attendant, who was busy chatting to another member of staff, that we were still waiting for our drinks. 3. We ordered nut roast. After shouting through from the bar to someone behind the scenes to enquire if they had nut roast, what came was most certainly not a nut roast. I am a cook, a writer of two cook books and used to do the recipe column for the Sunday Post. I know what a nut roast should be. We got a rather ghastly mainly rice and carrot offering. Shocking low standard.
