Fantastic location- a popular spot with bars and kareoke. Hotel offers great selection of cuisines, from Japanese to a western and eastern mixed breakfast buffet (which is included in with the room), the Chinese restaurant is very tasty, do try the set lunch bbq meats. I also recommend the small bakery downstairs especially the fresh egg tarts!

United is big in size but there is nothing outstanding in its surroundings.The view from my room at 12th floor is impressive but the area around it is not well lit up when I was there.There is a variety of food at the restaurant but the quality of the dishes needs improvement.When you travel in China do not put food on the top of your list when compared to the fare in Bangkok or Penang for example.Perhaps it was due to general poverty in the past

United Hotel is a brisk 10 minute walk in a direct line from Xiamen Railway Station. It is an antiquated building on a very busy intersection, with nightclubs and karaoke bars adjacent to the building. On checking in, the staff had problems finding my reservation and for a time I thought the reservation was lost. The room on the 15th floor was adequate. The breakfast was pretty good if you like a variety of Chinese dishes - the menu seems to change each day. if you are a light sleeper, you may want to consider finding accommodation in a quieter area of Xiamen.

I guess you get what you pay for. I spent four nights here as it is located next door to my daughters apartment. Make sure you ask for a non smoking room as after i left the hotel I could still smell smoke in my clothes and suitcases. Location is ok as there are some good eating places nearby and the bakery (85 degrees?)on the opposite corner has the best bread and cappucinno in China. The bed is absolutely horrible as it was rock hard but after reading many reviews I believe many Chinese like the hard mattresses. Breakfast was awful but it is a 3 star hotel that is reasonably priced. Avoid weekends if you can, as I noticed there were an influx of chinese tourists on tour buses on saturday and sunday. And of course, they love to press the elevator buttons to go up and down even though they only want to go down. So after breakfast on the 2nd floor we wanted to go back to our room on the 17th floor, we stopped at nearly every floor to pick up 4 or 5 chinese so by the time we got to our floor there were probably about 20 people in a lift designed for 12 and they all wanted to go to the ground floor not the top floor......... Lots of trouble communicating with reception staff as I think only one or two staff could speak or understand english.
