And so, having stayed in my carrier in a load of different levels of hotels and inn's in Mainland China, and especially, in Shekou, I had no too big expectations from this hotel, since many times before nearby Nanhai hotel was hotel I stayed in Nanhai, and because this one from outside looked not that attractive. And this is really a mistake in China, to judge hotel from outside. It was just so pleasant surprise since a check in - friendly & nice staff, fast check in, we got keys to the rooms, and up we went. Great clean room (clean - in China, with smelly carpets are such an important thing!), bright, and we have a room facing residential area - also very very quiet. Breakfast choice not too big, but OK, and then you have a LOCATION, such a great location, few minutes and you have 2 supermarkets to buy food - 10 minutes and all the vibrant area with restaurants in Sea World, and then around 10 minutes slow walk to Shekou port. Absolutely great experience!

The deposit required when I checked in for three nights in a suite was excessive, RMB 2000 instead of a sensible RMB 500 as other hotels require. The deposit required when I checked in for three nights in a suite was excessive, RMB 2000 instead of a sensible RMB 500 as other hotels require. There is no need for such a large deposit and the explanation given was arrogant and made no sense. Still, it is close to the ferry shuttle bus and Sea World. The breakfast was good.

“A great effort”

The hotel is in a good location, walking distance to Shekou Ferry terminal and Metro "Shekou port", 5 minutes. Hotel is on a busy street that can be noisy during peak hours. The staff is polite and professional although not fluent in English but they try and definitely assist you. My room was a bit… more

The hotel is in a good location, walking distance to Shekou Ferry terminal and Metro "Shekou port", 5 minutes. Hotel is on a busy street that can be noisy during peak hours. The staff is polite and professional although not fluent in English but they try and definitely assist you. My room was a bit outdated but clean and spacious, bathroom was well equipped and a wide range of amenities were provided. Wi-Fi and drinking available. The breakfast buffet was simple but the food was well prepared and available in large quantity. If you are staying around the port for business, I definitely recommend it.

“Payment problems”

Normally I pay for this hotel in advance by credit card through the Agoda booking agency, but this time the hotel insisted on payment when I arrived because apparently there is some new connection with another booking agency. It took weeks and several fraught phone calls to get the hotel to confirm… more

Normally I pay for this hotel in advance by credit card through the Agoda booking agency, but this time the hotel insisted on payment when I arrived because apparently there is some new connection with another booking agency. It took weeks and several fraught phone calls to get the hotel to confirm they would accept my American Express charge card on arrival.When I did arrive quite late at 10pm on a Friday night there seemed to be no problem and the reception gave me a receipt for CNY 2600 for four nights. This was good value for a non-smoking suite with excellent facilities, although it needed an air freshener sprayed around the door just inside, as someone had obviously been smoking there beforehand. The problem was when I checked out Tuesday morning, as the reception tried to charge me twice, then told me the first charge had been a deposit! A deposit of CNY 500 might be acceptable, but not CNY 2600. I had to loudly demand cancellation of the original deposit before I was charged CNY 2494. I shall examine my charge card statement with some trepidation. This whole new payment system is alarming, unusual and unnecessary. The hotel should go back to its old system of taking payments.
