“Decent, but a far cry from 5*”

I travelled to Beijing as a family in November 2014, and was booked into Huandao Boya Hotel by a tour agency, and was told that it was a 5 star hotel. Upon arrival, sadly, it felt more like an average 3 star hotel. We've got the hotel packaged into our tour for a very reasonable price, so I would have minimal complaints regarding that, however if I were to pay the rate that was advertised, I would have seeked elsewhere. The location of the hotel was strategic however, fairly close to a subway station which was pretty central. There are 2 shopping malls relatively nearby, around 15 minutes and 30 minutes walk away from the hotel. Wifi is available, however only at the lobby. The staff at the hotel spoke minimal to no English, which makes conversing very challenging, but they did try to help out as much as they could, which is a thumbs up for effort. Overall, I did enjoy my stay here :)

Though a bit dated, this is a large 5-star (maybe a bit overrated?) hotel with amenities. The location is fair, close to the administrative district. Limited knowledge of English language by the staff makes communication difficult at times. Breakfast is included in the price (vouchers are issued at the time if check-in), Though selection is limited to Chinese food mainly and quality is average. Amenities are available. The restaurant is good, with a wide choice of traditional Chinese food. Rooms are spacious and fairly clean. Internet: wifi only available in the lobby requiring registration with a Chinese mobile number (thus: NO wifi for tourists); ethernet cable available in room to access the www but slow and censored (lots of web site pages wont open). I used the same-day laundry service, and cloths were returned bit wet... The service is average despite the large number of personnel you see around.

5 star hotel without wifi. Location not so convenient.

Stayed at the hotel for 4 nights. Turned out better than I expected. Except for one sulky female receptionist at the front desk, the rest of the staff are cordial and helpful. Stayed at the hotel for 4 nights. Turned out better than I expected. Except for one sulky female receptionist at the front desk, the rest of the staff are cordial and helpful. English language of the staff is limited. Rooms and the bathroom are quite clean and comfortable. I wish the air conditioning could have been colder. Location wise - not much to explore around at hotel; but there is a train station about 5 mins walk from hotel (line 1 runs from there that can bring you straight to tian an men square and wangfujing shopping belt without need to change lines). Need to pay for internet use in the room ,about S$12 for an hour. On the whole, quite a comfortable stay.
