“Great Service at the Capitol Restaurant”

Our last night in Canberra - staying at the Ovolo Nishi. Restaurant there is only vegetarian - so we walked over to the QT to have a meal at the Capitol. Great atmosphere and good food - service was excellent. We would have stayed at the hotel but for the poor reviews - suggest if you do stay - get a room on the north side to avoid the current construction at the front of the hotel. I can only comment on the restaurant and drinks area - but we thought it was great.

We are a Sydney, Australia couple who are used to staying at all types of hotels and we've stayed at several QT properties including Melbourne and Sydney. We were hoping of a decent quality stay in Canberra and booked two nights as part of an EVT promotion that included breakfast, parking and $50 dining credit. Our stay was over NYE and NYD which may be part of why it was such an average experience - we were told they received several bookings in the past day which made them very busy - but honestly if you're not staffed for all the bookings you're accepting you are intentionally taking the money and pretty much guaranteeing lousy service. Dinner was an almost 90min wait and pretty terrible when it did come. The restaurant wasn't even open on NYE - just the bar area. The two bar staff looked singularly disinterested in providing any service really and kept talking to each other. I ordered a bread basket to tie us over given the long wait time for food and after 40mins went to see where it was since it's such a simple thing and the look on the face of the young man at the bar clearly told me he'd forgotten as he rushed to "see where it was". Other poor experiences included the long wait time for breakfast, called down for extra facial tissues that never came, room service entered my room even when I had a do not disturb sign on the door and the affiliated gym was actually pretty hard to find and hard to get to with all the construction in the area. I did get meal costs taken off the bill after raising the issues upon checkout but don't think we'll be back.
