This apartment hotel, with spacious rooms and mini kitchen, with reserved free private parking, is located just around the corner from the train station and just a block off the main square of a typical (if you can really call any of these wonderful Tuscan towns "typical" ancient town that really comes alive in the early evening. There are great restaurants nearby and you can stroll down the main shopping street to the piazza for that perfect gelato. Forget the bus tour to Florence and don't even think about trying to drive in the city. The Italians (or at least the Florentines) have heavily invested in traffic cameras, have severely restricted no driving areas and you are virtually assured of getting a ticket in the mail a couple of months after you retun home. Instead, stay at the Residenza San Giovanni, wake up early, walk down the block and take a 28 minute express train that takes you straight to the middle of central Florence and walking distance of the important sites. Return the same way. Take your time and enjoy one of the world's most beautiful areas, surpassed only by the wonderful people who live there. Speaking of traffic tickets, I have one and am patiently waiting to be arrested. I promise not to fight extradition to Florence!

We've stayed at this hotel twice while travelling through San G and have chosen it mainly for its location close to the train station. After our last stay I have to admit that I would re-consider staying there again especially in the summertime. This is partly due to the fact that the hotel has placed massive air-conditioning units in the rooms that are extremely loud. Even my earplugs would not cover the sound of the A/C. Secondly, the A/C hardly cooled down the room. We mentioned this to the receptionist but she didn't seem to have any authorization to change things. The rooms are spacious but quite poorly designed and it really feels like you're not getting much value for your money. We also had ants in the room coming up from the kitchen sink. It's ok to pay 40e for such a room but 70-80e seems a bit steep. I really hope that they will improve the quality in the future!

The room itself wasn't great - uncomfortable bed and a strange smell that didn't go away no matter how much the window was left open.
