“High quality bungalows in a superb location”

I often choose accommodation that is frequented by Germans, particularly in the Canary Islands, because Germans have higher standards and expect better quality. Club Primavera proves my point. German guests in the neighbouring bungalow told me that they were staying for three weeks and they've been coming every year since the 1990s. The location is ideal - right next to the extensive Maspalomas dunes, a 10-minute walk to the bars and restaurants of Playa del Ingles, and close to the southernmost populated point of the area with a 2.3km walk through the dunes to Playa de Maspalomas. There are 16 bungalows, 8 on each side. I asked for a bungalow closest to the dunes, and we were given bungalow 8, which had the best location of all. Bungalow 9 is also closest to the dunes. Bungalows 1 to 8 have sun in the morning, and bungalows 9 to 16 have sun in the evening. The television has a satellite receiver connected to Astra 19.2°E, which is far more impressive than any hotel. Although it seems to be tuned only to German-speaking channels, I eventually found BBC World after I scrolled through almost 700 channels. So there are other language channels if you look hard enough. The wifi is impressively fast - around 95Mbps downstream and 53Mbps upstream. There are plenty of power sockets everywhere, including one each side of the bed and two in the bathroom. Our bungalow was cleaned on Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. Other bungalows were being cleaned on Sunday, so maybe cleaning days vary by bungalow. I was impressed that the wardrobes are 56cm deep, which allows full-sized cabin baggage to be left fully open inside the wardrobe, keeping the room very tidy. The safe is the largest I've seen in any tourist accommodation. It's the same size as a hotel minibar, so even the largest laptop would fit. But security isn't an issue because there are always guests sitting outside their bungalows who would notice any suspicious activity. The kitchen is modern and well-equipped but unfortunately there's no dishwasher. There is air conditioning only in the main room, not in the bedroom; this ought to be the other way round. The pool and adjacent sunbathing area are quite small, but ideal for unusually windy days when the beach might be uncomfortable.

“Relaxing beach villas”

“Great Place. Ideal.”

This is a very small and quiet complex. It is ideal if you want quiet and relaxing holiday. Good size bedroom, and comfortable living room. Pool was a perfect size. The bungalows are ultra clean. Spacious with everything you need. Everything was perfect.

“Small but Perfectly Formed”

We said we'd never make a second visit anywhere till we'd been everywhere, but we've repeatedly broken this self-imposed rule because we love Club Primavera so much. We go on holiday to relax and we want a venue that's a good base for exploring the region. Club Primavera scores on all points. Gran Canaria is a beautiful island with lots to see and do - why do so few visitors venture to explore the spectacular mountains and pretty villages in the centre and north, or the historic capital with its churches, museums and other sights? We're always able to park our rental car directly outside the front gate so that we can drive off to explore in any direction. But on lazy days, we leave the car parked there and go out of the gate at the other end of the garden opening directly onto the promenade across the top of the beach and sand dunes. On even lazier days, we can stay in the garden, swim in Primavera's own pool, sunbathe in private on our bungalow's own rooftop terrace or on our own front patio or lawn. The resort consists of 16 bungalows set in a private garden sandwiched between the town and the beach. It is very quiet, it has no bar, restaurant or piped music, no organised activities. Nearly all the other holidaymakers are non-english-speaking Germans who are friendly but don't expect us to spend a lot of time chatting with them. There are many restaurants and shops within easy walking distance, including a small supermercado on the street corner. The beauty is that none is near enough to cause intrusive noise. And a walk of 1 km along the promenade brings you to a profusion of restaurants, bars and beach shops at the main Playa del Ingles beach. Our compromise between a lazy day and going exploring is to drive 20 km to Puerto Rico or Playa Amadores to spend a lazy day there and eat in a restaurant there. The one downside of Primavero derives from its proximity to the sand dunes and Gran Canaria's hot and dry but windy climate. The sand gets everywhere, and though the breeze is welcome, it brings sand with it. The bungalows are well equipped with endless supply of piping hot water for the shower, but TV majors on German channels, and microwave is available only on request rather than being part of the inventory of every unit. But air-conditioning is. If you're a social animal who goes on holiday to make new friends and join in jolly entertainment, it isn't for you. If you want to relax in peace, quiet and privacy, it's perfect.

“Amazingly quiet stay”

Club Primavera is made up of 15 bungalows and a pool....that's it!
