Our August stay at the luxurious Hotel Ambassador in Opatija, Croatia, was nothing short of spectacular. This elegant retreat offers a perfect blend of old-world charm and modern amenities, set against the stunning backdrop of the Adriatic Sea. The hotel's restaurant is a true gastronomic delight. We only stayed one night at Hotel Ambassador, but we made full use of the hotel's outdoor pool and private deck on the edge of the sea - there is easy access to the water and plenty of loungers and deck chairs in both areas. Our room was comfortable, good shower (although minus points for providing silly little toiletry bottles) and great aircon. Included breakfast in the morning was a substantial buffet that had pretty much anything you could want. All the staff we interacted with were friendly and helpful, we would definitely come back if we were in the area again!

We stayed here late September/early October for 5 nights booking with TUI. First impressions of the hotel (from the outside) is that it does not look as grandiose as the many other older hotels in Opatija, but we knew this when we booked. First impressions count - We were not blown away by what seemed to be a lack of enthusiasm when checking in, by the female receptionist. Yes, we arrived before check in time, but there was a general lack of engagement. To give context, we stayed in a 3 star Holiday Inn Express in Belgium early this year and the receptionist greeted us warmly, gave us a map, told us all about the locality. So, arriving at a '5 star' hotel at a time when it was not heaving with people wanting to check in, we'd have expected better. We went downstairs to the CUBO restaurant and had lunch, returning around 90 minutes later to get our room cards. Our room (115) was fairly spacious, clean and well appointed, with the exception of the sliding patio door which didn't lock! The Bell boy arrived with our cases and we made him aware and he said he'd get somebody to look at it. In the end, we were able to 'fix' the catch which was bent and not engaging with the frame. Wanting to get out and explore, we informed reception on the way out, but they said they'd still get somebody to check it out. On our return we asked reception if they could book the CUBO restaurant for dinner. This time a male receptionist, who said "you can book it yourself, just go downstairs". Again, not particularly helpful and had this been explained to us when we checked in, we wouldn't have asked! Most hotels we've stayed in, allow reception to make such bookings! Again, not the '5 star' touch! The next day after housekeeping had serviced the room, the lock on the patio door was broken again. We couldn't be bothered to report this again so just left it - We came on holiday to relax, not to keep having to inform reception of issues! On check in we had asked about excursions and were told the concierge was sick. That was it, no elaboration or suggestion that there was an app, which we discovered the next day when a lovely female receptionist told us all about it, and even offered to talk us through it if we had any trouble - That is more like it! On checking out on 2nd October we also had a lovely receptionist! For us, the male and female that were on duty the afternoon of 26th September, let the hotel down! There were also occasions when there were no receptionists to be seen at all, although they usually appeared quite quickly. The CUBO restaurant was very good, with really polite, professional and knowledgeable staff and amazing food and wine! We ate there 3 times (x2 dinner and x1 lunch) and would really recommend the 5 course fish taster menu! Breakfast was good with a very good selection of food, with lovely views. Housekeeping was very inconsistent and not consistent with a 5 star hotel. Small things like not replenishing tea/coffee in rooms. We tried to get some breakfast tea from breakfast area but couldn't see any. We then asked reception and they wrote down "breakfast tea and milk" (as neither had been replenished for 2 days). A lady came up to the room with peppermint tea and milk! The next day we did manage to get some from the breakfast area. On one day, dirty glasses/cups not taken away from our room. On another, a dirty pillow case was left on the desk and the bed runner was found on the floor in a crumpled heap! On one day only were we treated to flannels - These disappeared the next day, never to be seen again! On another occasion only 1 of the 2 drinking water glasses were replaced. The room/bathroom were cleaned well and a bottle of water left each day however. On one day we sunbathed by the outside Pool. It was supposed to a no smoking area but this was not enforced by the staff! We both had a great massage, followed by a swim in the indoor pool and this was very good. We'd highly recommend the spa. The staff in the bar were good. In particular Aleksander who was very polite and friendly with a great memory! On two occasions what sounded like a fire alarm went off briefly at 01:25, waking us up - No idea why! Overall,, a good stay but a number of improvements are required if this hotel really wants to portray a 5 star status!

A modern clean hotel with friendly staff, excellent buffet food for breakfast and evening meals, great choice and good quality. Drinks prices pretty reasonable for a hotel in a popular tourist location. Pool was wonderful albeit with sun beds that are not the most comfortable and towel reservation of beds was very active, most ‘reserved’ by 09:00. Fantastic location with a private beach area, the sea gloriously refreshing to swim in. The 12km promenade (the Lungomere) wonderful to stroll along. Hotel rooms reasonably spacious with comfortable beds. Overall a very good hotel, would be very happy to return and would recommend
