“Nice Historic Lodge”

We stayed in the main lodge and were for the most part pleased with it. Pros: Nice, updated room, large, comfortable, clean, felt upscale, friendly and helpful staff, loved the historic feel, great location Cons: no WiFi in room although cell service was ok, a little pricey

This review is for cabin #2, a housekeeping cabin, at the State Game Lodge. Each cabin has a little different layout and amenities. This review is for cabin #2, a housekeeping cabin, at the State Game Lodge. Each cabin has a little different layout and amenities. Cabins 1, 2, and 3 appear to be older cabins that have been updated with newer, larger cabins behind these. We were very comfortable in this 3 room cabin. The bedroom was small and consisted of the queen bed, which was fairly comfortable, and a small dresser. Not enough room to walk around the bed. No nightstand. Outlets were not accessible and there was only 1 USB outlet in the lamp. The livingroom/kitchen was larger with a pull out sofa, table for 4 and TV. There was a large rack for hanging clothes too. A few outlets and another lamp with USB outlets. There is no cell service at the cabins. Spotty at the main lodge. It is a full kitchen with a full refrigerator, stove, microwave. It came equipped with basic utensils for eating and cooking. Bathroom was large and had an updated, tiled shower. Lighting was very dim in the shower and the only towel rack was above the toilet. It could use some additional hooks closer to the sink and shower. I moved a kitchen chair in here to hang a towel on. Air conditioning worked well. Location was close to the main road but noise and traffic were not a problem for us. There is a paved parking spot and a paved path to the store and lodge. We were close to the general store, unfortunately staff told us the summer hours of being open until 8, when after Labor Day they close at 6. When we did finally check it out we were disappointed in the lack of basic bread and milk. We would stay here again as the surroundings can't be beat. We had buffalo, big horn sheep, and deer outside our cabin on a couple of occasions. This is a beautiful state park!

There's no WiFi in the rooms and cell service is spotty. The website doesn't say this, at least not anywhere obvious. There's no WiFi in the rooms and cell service is spotty. The website doesn't say this, at least not anywhere obvious. The front desk says it's because it's too complicated to extend wifi to the rooms - yet every other hotel I've stayed at for the last 20 years has managed to do it. The property has some history, but beyond the anteroom of the main house it's pretty much just any other campground lodge. The rooms themselves are cheaply made from pine. Bathrooms are the quality you'd expect from a cookie-cutter $99 hotel on I-90. The area and the property have a ton of potential, but this property is run more like a government concession than a luxury resort - though with luxury resort pricing. Hopefully the state can secure a better operator who will make the property what it could/should be. There's a lot of potential with some imagination and investment.
