My father and I recently stayed here around the Christmas holiday. I'm surprised that only three people have reviewed this hotel so far. The place was packed when we were there. My Dad was very impressed. He said he would rate it an 11 out of 10! I agree that it was pretty nice. The staff was very accommodating. The rooms were a bit small, but had beautiful hardwood floors and a nice balcony, which you could actually step out onto (unlike in the U.S., where you can't open most hotel windows and doors). It was in a good location with a convenient grocery store right next door. Didn't try the restaurant at the hotel, but I did notice that around dinner time, nearly every table was full, so it must be good.

“Poor value for money”

First impressions were disappointing - flower beds full of weeds and paint peeling off the railings at the front door. Only ever seemed to be one member of staff - a friendly enough gentleman (the owner?) who showed us to our room, which was OK. It had a balcony (overlooking a neglected garden) and comfortable furnishings but no minibar or safe. He never mentioned a restaurant so I guess it wasn't operating at that time, but we ate in an a good Italian place next door. The hotel breakfast was actually excellent, and - when we left - an elderly lady was expertly weeding the front flower beds. We paid 100 euros for the two of us, which was very poor value. There are around a dozen hotels and guest houses in Hochenschwand and dozens of houses offering rooms, so there really is no good reason to choose the Adenia. My advice would be to contact the local tourist board for an accommodation list.
