“Great hotel, decor a little outdated”

We stayed in the Mitsui Garden Hiroshima in early November. We agree with other reviews that the decor is outdated and it could do with a refresh. The rooms were large in comparison to most Japanese rooms. The light switch scenario in the rooms peculiar as only bed ( the one against the wall) has all the master light switches. The other bed only has reading light and no other useful light switches. The reception staff were the most friendliest and helpful that we encountered on our trip. They were absolutely delightful. The 25th floor is the guest lounge which affords amazing views of Hiroshima and harbour. The hotel provides free snacks and drinks, it has a free alcoholic drinks between 6pm and 8pm. Breakfast was okay, mostly Japanese food but with a few western style options ( scrambled eggs, bacon, crossiants etc) There is a great Okonomiyaki resturant called Jirokichi the street behind the hotel that does both vegetarian and meat dishes, it only has space for 5 tables but well worth a visit.

“Nice Stay”

This has been the smallest room in our Japan trip. No closet or even anywhere to hang things. The bed was comfortable though and the shower had great water pressure. Very clean! The roof lounge is very nice amenity. They offer ok wine at the cocktail hour. We didn’t partake of breakfast. Easy walk to the Peace Park

“Great Value for Exploring Hiroshima”

We only stayed here 2 nights, but what a find this was. Rooms are small, but OK for 2 people which enough room to unpack suitcases. As a party of 4, we opted for 2 rooms and the front desk staff gave us 2 rooms next to each other. The rooms are dated, peeling wallpaper, stained carpet, the usual stuff for outdated rooms, but not enough to worry about. The AC worked great, which was welcome in the 100 degree summer heat. The surprise was the 25th floor lounge for breakfast and afternoon/evening drinks. We weren't expecting much, but wow breakfast was fantastic - lots of tasty options and the staff were fantastic. The afternoon / evening snacks were very limited, but they had water and juice which was welcome after a long day sight seeing. The hotel is a few blocks from a tram stop and there's a bus stop, which goes to the train station practically in front of the hotel, making it easy to get around. There's a FamilyMart across the street and the Peace Memorial Park is just a 10 or 15 minute walk, so this is very convenient location if using it as a base for exploring the city.

Adequate at best. Good: good location, comfortable bed, nice bedding, pleasant and helpful staff Bad: hotel generally feels dated, room was very small, air conditioning was noisy and didn’t work (in the sense of blew air around but didn’t make a meaningful difference to the temperature of the room), breakfast was a bit of a scrum and not very good. Next time I visit Hiroshima, I’ll stay elsewhere.
