“The New Block is Great!”

First, it is no longer the Liyi Holiday Hotel - it is the Leisure Inn Yangshuo. We did not book the hotel and relied on a friend who is now working in the area. We needed to spend the night after the cruise down from Guilin. I must say, it was a good choice. There are 2 blocks, the newer one with 58 renovated rooms (where we were) and the older block where the local tour groups go. I have to say that I was very pleased not to have to encounter the noisy local groups. The hotel was nice and clean and so conveniently located. The street is busy-ish and the Li River and shopping (West Strret - pedestrian street) are just a hop and a skip away. So no worries about food as there are lots of restaurants, cafes and bars. We were surprised how touristy the town is. But then again, all needs are catered for. You will be bugged as you walk along. The room we had was on the 3rd floor with a shower, rain shower and a small wooden bath tub where there is a seat inside - don't know what it is officially called :-) My partner had to try it! The bed was not too hard and was equipped with the usual amenities, fridge, kettle etc. The complimentary toiletries were great too. And the window can be opened! All in all, it was a good comfortable stay and the Chinese restaurant at the corner just opposite the hotel serves a great beer fish!

We stayed here in October as part of a tour. The Standard of hotels in the area is not high, and this is no exception. It is, though, well situated to explore this great little town. Just minutes from West Street, and the beautiful Li River. The hotel is on a busy bustling street. The whole town stays alive into the early hours, and there is some noise until quite late. The room was comfortable. Not huge, but adaquate for our needs. There is no restaurant in the hotel. Or anything else to be honest. As for beakfast - forget it! Awful. Within a couple of minutes there are dozens of great cafes where you pick up a tasty, reasonably priced, breakfast. If you want modern luxury, don't stay here. If you want a reasonable bed for the night in a great location you could do worse.
