“Super stay!”

We were there for almost 3 weeks. Great experience and location. The kids have appreciated the pool while we went to the sea in front. Chyrssoula was amazing and welcomed us each morning with a huge smile. Next to the hotel there are plenty of great and yummy tavernas as well as beautiful and clean (and almost empty!) beaches. “Great value for a low money”

We had a apartment, which was spacefull and comfortable. Equipment is older but fully functional. Pool and pool bar is also little bit of older but still fine. Very nice breakfast and friendly staff. Decent value for money. Very close to the beach.

“Not our first visit, but might be our last”

This is the 5th time we have stayed at Villa Village in the past 10 years and it's a real shame to say that each time we go, it goes down in terms of quality. We have loved going there and my children have fond memories and always ask if we can go to Villa Village when we talk about holiday. First off, this is a mid-priced small hotel in rural south east Crete, it is not a luxury complex and it does not try to be. As a result, you do make some allowances. The rooms are basic and dated, the bathrooms were a decade out of date on our first visit and are now looking fairly desperately in need of some attention, things like water pressure in the taps, loose toilet seats, nothing that ruined out stay, but all things that should be picked up by housekeeping and fixed. The hotel seems to be run now on a skeleton staff. Chrisoula the breakfast waitress and lunch time bar staff is amazing, always has a smile on her face always happy to have a chat. We have got to know her over the times we have been going and she's seen my children grow up and always remembers us and other family who have been in the past. She is however absolutely run off her feet, with no help at all from anyone. There was one day we were there, I think there was a public holiday in Crete and the winds were really strong so everyone (residents and non-residents) were coming from the beach to the pool. I have never seen so many people at the bar at lunch time, ordering food and drinks and Chrisoula was really struggling to cope. There was no help whats ever from anyone. The manager just sat in his office. It got to the point where hotel guests were helping her by clearing and wiping tables and everyone could see how stressed she was getting and so everyone was trying to help out. We never saw anyone helping her in the 2 weeks we were there which is appalling and shows very poor management. The pool area is lovely and the breakfast is really good. I think there has been a change of ownership/management in recent years and it's not been good. The hotel manager basically sits in his office, doesn't engage with any guests, he was giving Chrisoula a telling off about something one morning in full view and ear shot of the guests at breakfast, he's completely unprofessional. The Greek nights that we used to enjoy no longer happen, the BBQ nights that we used to enjoy no longer happen, the cocktail happy hour nights that used to be 3 or 4 nights a week are now once a week, the wine tasting nights and Crete talks that used to happen no longer happen, slowly they are taking away all the things that gave the hotel a bit of charm so its made me think that we may not return again, they don't appear to value the guests any more.
