Spent 6 nights at this hotel. Previously stayed here earlier in the year. The hotel is well positioned in Jinan , but could do with some renovation and modernizing. The rooms are very spacious and clean. The carpets however could do with cleaning. The breakfast buffet is very Chinese cuisine and could definitely be improved to accommodate Western guests. The rates are good compared with more Western orientated hotels close by. So for business travelers , a good option , particularly where you just need a good nights rest.

Spent 4 nights at this hotel I have always spent my time in Jinan in more Western type accommodation. At this time of year the city accomodation in the typical Western hotels were quite heavily priced and was recommended by a Chinese colleague to try this hotel. Zhonghao was effectively 40% less expensive , so expected a lot less. The position in the city is good , the room is large and comfortable. Not as modern as Western Hotels in Jinan , which are relatively new compared to this hotel. It is obviously a hotel servicing predominantly local people and this could be picked up with the very limited English that could be spoken or understood at the front desk as well as the vast breakfast buffet accommodated local cuisine. For my purposes a value for money option , on business as my primary use is a good nights rest in a comfortable and clean room and a decent hot shower. That part was certainly 4 star. Will stay there again should the prices continue to be that competitive against the more Western orientated hotels in Jinan. The only real bug I had was although wifi was free , it was very poor connection in the room. The wired service was great.

The Zhonghao Grand was not so grand as I expected. Having travelled in China extensively I have seen many good ones but unfortunately this one isn't within such category. The room was average, not so clean and the bathroom was really odd. Here you find nothing where you would expect it - I'm not sure wether the architect knew what he was doing while designing the layout but I'd rather say he didn't. Breakfast and dinner buffet was good and hed even some decent western food. Service was"chinese" but as usual communication is really difficult if you don't speak the local language - only the reception staff was a welcome exception to that. All in all ok for business.

This hotel is quite old, comparing to others that i have stayed. When i stepped into the room, i smelled something bad from the bathroom. The carpet on the floor is very old and smell. Breakfast is below average. I couldn't find meat. Mostly they provided vegetables in chinese style. Breakfast started from 6.30 am which i think, it's quite late for business people. I was ready 6.15 am and had to wait outside until they opened. People at the lobby cannot speak English and sometimes don't understand English, too. Location is great for shoppers. All the shopping malls are just across the street. You can enjoy 4-5 km. of shopping street. I stayed for 3 nights and i paid for 3 nights. BUT, the receipt showed only 2 nights, so i asked them to revise. They decided to pay me back one night (around 500 RMB) and let me go because people were waiting in the line. So i left hotel and few hours later they called me to come and pay back 500 RMB. I don't think this is a good solving problem skill at all :(
