“Peaceful oasis”

A wonderful oasis in the hectic world of Nairobi. Old world charm and beautiful grounds and pool. The staff are excellent and all go well out of their to make your stay as enjoyable as possible. We felt right at home here for a few days... even the monkeys made us feel welcome!

A last-minute trip to Kenya brought us to the La Mada Hotel. The manager, Martin, was so incredibly helpful in assisting us with our booking. The warmth and hospitality shown by the staff made our visit one to remember. The hotel is nestled in the forest and it feels like an oasis, with a pool area for those warm days. The rooms are clean and all that you might need is provided. Thanks Martin, we look forward to returning to our new home in Nairobi, Kenya.

We stayed here for 2 nights, pre and post a safari. The staff were welcoming and the breakfast buffet was quite nice, with a range of hot and cold offerings. The rooms were clean and reasonably spacious. The room comes with a security safe. The bathroom has a shower over a bath, so you have some options. The bed was nice and comfy. We ate at the hotel both nights and the food was excellent but did take quite a while to be prepared. There were some disappointments during our stay. The first night we advised the desk that the room safe was locked. Despite an offer to have it fixed while we were at dinner, nothing was done. On our second night, we had no hot water on arrival. After a call to the front desk, we were told it was an oversight with a switch and 2 hours later finally saw some warm water flowing. We also had a kettle, cups and tea bags. But no coffee, whitener or spoons. Little annoyances but reflecting a lack of attention to detail. The hotel is not in a central location and there are no local tourist attractions. So be prepared to use ride shares to go anywhere. The hotel can arrange drivers for you but they come at a premium. Transfers to/from the international airport can cost you anywhere from 35 – 50USD, while an Uber may put you back 15 – 20USD. If you are visiting Nairobi as part of a tour package, then I can see the value of the La Mada Hotel and you will enjoy a comfortable stay. However, if you are looking to visit the tourist spots of the city you may want to consider a more centrally-located establishment.
