“Nice hotel, a little tired but they are working on updating. An issue with luke warm shower and lukewarm warm buffet”

My wife and I stayed at this hotel for 2 nights on our way to Aberystwyth. Overall the experience was good. Having a lounge makes a change from the small or no lounge areas normally found in the chain motels. Staff attentive and helpful. Two complaints are the lukewarm buffet and on our last morning no hot water in the shower even after being in the shower with full (on hot water) for 10 minutes!! They are clearly updating what is a traditional large hotel so perhaps this will include the plumbing. New Gym and nice pool. We would probably come back but question the hot water issue in advance.

My wife and I stayed here for two nights on one of the Metropole’s famous ‘wine and dine’ offers. We’ve been visiting here for quite a few years now. It used to feel so special, but we’re not so sure now. There’s a feeling of fading glory about the place. The service from the staff is still exceptionally good, you do actually feel like a welcome guest, but the décor is looking distinctly tired, from the wallpaper to the carpets wearing at joins. However, everything was spotlessly clean. Overall the room was good, with a comfortable bed and plenty of storage. The shower room was good, though, as is often the case these days, I felt the designer had not tried it out from a user’s point of view, a lack of space to put your usual personal bathroom bits and pieces being one of my favourite gripes. (There is a large chain of budget hotels which has cracked this issue!) The hospitality tray seemed a little sparse for an hotel of this calibre: I know you have to watch the pennies but customers have expectations. The three course evening meal was good: well presented and well served, but the menu seemed a little thin and, shall we say, boring (safe?): it used to feel special, but not any more. I understand that these days costs are a major issue for hotels but potential customers are much more careful about how they spend their money too: a very difficult balance to draw. We will, of course, be back, just to experience the service, but maybe not so frequently. But do go to the Metropole to experience hotel service done properly.

“Lovely lunch”

Just popped in this afternoon to see if we could get a coffee to break up a very long drive home. Would throughly recommend you checking this place out. We ended up have lunch, we just went for a sandwich and panini, really good value and very tasty. Staff friendly, loos clean and car park free… more

Just popped in this afternoon to see if we could get a coffee to break up a very long drive home. Would throughly recommend you checking this place out. We ended up have lunch, we just went for a sandwich and panini, really good value and very tasty. Staff friendly, loos clean and car park free. It’s full of charm and obviously a popular choice as there were plenty of people there today. We will definitely use this as a pit stop next time we’re passing through.

My main words to describe this whole place would be “traditional”. The staff were really friendly, the rooms were fine, if not a little dated, and the food was really pleasant. Service was really good from the start to finish and the food was very much like home-made , mum’s type dinner! Rooms in general are in dire need of refurbishment - not because they are worn, but because they are just very, very traditional. If you expect a warm welcome, home-made food, traditional rooms and a super publication you won’t go far wrong. Dinner was traditional, three course and cost just over £30 per person
