Returned to The Craiglynne for 2 nights last week, and thoroughly enjoyed our stay - as we have previously. Large, comfortable bedroom. Great selection of food at breakfast, and our dinner was delicious. And the weather was good enough to allow us to make use of the outdoor seating!🌞 Staff were all nice but a special mention to Natalie on reception, who was so friendly and welcoming - ensured we had everything we needed and couldn't have been more helpful (thank you Natalie - it was lovely meeting/chatting with you) Hopefully be back again around the same time next year!

“The Good, Bad, Ugly and a happy ending!”

The Good.. Our room (107) was a good size, view over the front, bed comfy, considering our vicinity to the landing / stairs we slept very well indeed ( more so having got zero sleep at the Britannia Aviemore Colyumbridge Hotel) Reception staff was also very helpful The bad, the bathroom had poor fittings, peeling paint, dodgy electric wiring and just a bad finish on dated bathroom suite. The Ugly, alas we had a real bad sewage smell, lurking in our bathroom, when we complained they said it had never been reported before. The happy ending, reception took the time to send us a courtesy email, to apologise and to give a follow up on my report, this speaks volumes!! If only other hotels would make an effort to listen & rectify

I have just returned from a three night stay with a group of friends and here are my personal thoughts on the Craiglynne Hotel. A typical old Scottish hotel which is in need of a revamp in certain areas. The photos of the rooms most definitely do not show the bad and ugly only the good. What makes it more annoying is the fact you are charged a single room supplement for the privilege of staying in a cupboard. When you get to the singles there seems to be some which are okay and some which are dire. The bad— No shelves over sinks to put anything on, no hooks or anywhere for even your wash bag so sit on. A miserly 3 coat hangers in the wardrobe but for some reason you can have an ironing board and iron inside there??? Squeezy soap at sink beautifully positioned right above your plastic cup . Doesn’t make for a tasty glass of water. Black mould in shower not very attractive and even less inviting to use. The better rooms seem to have newer showers, less mould, shelves to put your bits and bobs on, no ironing board though and 5 hangers in the wardrobe. A good size of bed too and a power socket right beside it which was great for charging and using your phone at the same time. So not all doom and gloom. The breakfasts were not bad at all but silly little things like having no marmalade at all beggars believe. Instead there were two massive jars of strawberry and raspberry jam which guest had to dip a spoon into thereby causing a horrible mess of jam drips all over the table. Why not use the little plastic foil covered portions which cause no mess. The bowl of fruit salad was lovely but substituted with sliced up grapefruits complete with peel which were not appealing in the least nor easy to eat. As for the fruit juice, a choice of apple or orange, they tasted as if they had been watered down. Not nice . Of all the hotels we have stayed in the evening meals here were probably the poorest we have experienced. The slimmest chicken fillet I have ever seen, tasteless pork and boiled ham. Frozen veg and boiled or mashed potatoes. Puddings were also uninspiring with the gluten free option being ice cream each evening- no vanilla available. When asked if there was some fruit as an option it was a resounding NO. Pretty poor for a large hotel. As for the staff we had a very pleasant receptionist, come bar tender come waitress who came from Queensland, Australia. Bonus points for her versatility and happy smile. Gold star award for the amazing Sabina from Hungary who was so efficient, smiling all the time and could not do enough to help. Not so good was “one of the managers” so he told me -who brought out 4 main courses for a table of 6. We patiently waited for the other 2 meals to arrive but he served umpteen other people ignoring our table. We were asked if some at our table had been late ordering -which they had not- and eventually two more meals were produced. Meanwhile being polite our dinners were going cold. He was very rude to me and if that is an example of management at this facility he should go for some customer care lessons. The lovely wood burning open fires were very welcome in the lounge areas and we did enjoy sitting around these in the evenings. Most of the staff were lovely , helpful and very friendly but it only takes one to spoil it.
