“5 stars for a 2 star hotel”

Wonderful people. It feels like coming home. Great food. breakfast and dinner are lovely and abundant. Rooms are charming and clean. Good location near the village. Keep up the good work. We hope to be back some day! Greetings from Belgium.

We called in late, around 22;00hrs. No problem. room was ready, clean and so idyllic. Small balcony and good shower in bath facilities. Great view on the nearby mountains. We loved the breakfast and quick WIFI,

It was a last minute booking for a ski holiday - not much accommodation available but the reviews seemed good, so we went for it! It was a last minute booking for a ski holiday - not much accommodation available but the reviews seemed good, so we went for it! Went as a family - 2 adults, 2 teenagers - two rooms - one double and one twin. Price is based on bed, breakfast and dinner - no reductions given if you want to eat elsewhere. It really is a family-run place, and the people work really hard. Somewhat short-staffed at times, but nothing too problematic. Plus points - really good food. Much better than you might expect from the 2 star rating. And plenty of it too. Most evenings we had to pass on either cheese or dessert, as there was just too much to eat. Restaurant was very busy on some evenings, with people coming in from outside to eat. This meant service can be a little slow at times. Good variety and decent wine list. Breakfast is 'help yourself' = no hot options but really good selection of breads and home-made jams. Beds were very comfortable and the rooms are a decent size and warm - a bit too warm at times, but you can always open the window! We drove to the ski lifts but there is a ski bus which goes from virtually outside the front door. Walk up to the town takes about 5 minutes - easier coming back down! Always plenty of hot water at all times of day. Points that make it a two star/could do with improvement: - the bathrooms are functional but not overly modern. Showers are small and have curtains, rather than cubicles, so you needed to be careful not to get water all over the floor. Could do with some modernisation but I guess that money is tight in the hotel trade in Chatel. Depending on who is next door, the rooms can be noisy (thin walls) - needed to knock on doors and ask them to be quiet a couple of times! Mostly noisy kids though.... One point that some people who have not been to France before might find odd/strange (or worse) is that they let dogs into the restaurant... Some earlier comments have mentioned that they did not find the owners very welcoming. My take on this is that they are just very, very busy and don't have a lot of time for chatting. Whenever I spoke with them, they were always friendly and very nice, but they don't often initiate the conversation (I speak French, so not a language issue) - same people were there at 07:00 getting breakfast ready and then back again at 19:00 until late doing dinner. I would recommend this place in terms of being good value for money. It is not luxurious or flashy but is is comfortable with very good food which is what you need after a day on the slopes

“Great little hotel ”

We booked this hotel as not many were open in November. It was a great little hotel, basic in some areas but overall great. Breakfast was delicious, rooms very clean. We also asked them for a sandwich late on a Sunday night and they gave us a plate of lovely food from their family meal! Very kind o… more
