“A very pleasant stopover near the main industrilal area of Germany”

We stayed for one night in June. The room was pleasant enough, clean, with a comfortable bed. It had recently been renovated. The hotel has a restaurant serving traditional German meals, though there is another hotel with a restaurant a few minutes walk down the road if needed. There is a nice walk along the Rhine nearby, with a couple of large cooling towers on the other side for a view. The Hotel does not look over the river itself. Parking is outside the front of the hotel, off the road. It would help to speak a little German, as the hotel staff don't speak any of the 5 languages we speak between us. I liked the small field to the side of the hotel with sheep and chickens wandering about; it gives a rural atmosphere to the hotel.

A traditional local hostelry with rooms, in a pleasant quiet 'suburb' of an industrial area on the banks of the Rhine - walk the walls of the old fortress and enjoy the hints of its merchant heritage in nice buildings... we stayed twice on successive Sunday nights and were bowled over by the warmth of the welcome on both occasions and the bounciness and charm of the atmosphere in the restaurant. When we visited, the hotel side was being renovated and so some of the corridors were scruffy though our first room was almost complete - superb bathroom and simple furnishings: comfortable. Our second stay was in a room that hadn't been 'done' yet and was a bit smaller, missing some details e.g. a bedside lamp but no handy plug, but with an excellent bed. That said, the food is superb and the portions so huge we almost opted for one dish between two. We certainly couldn't believe our eyes at a neighbouring table's 'Tomahawk Steak', but don't worry - doggy bags are the norm! There is also a trend for complimentary and delicious soup and a schnapps chaser.When we left early in the morning after our second stay, we had requested packed breakfasts and these were fresh, ample and delicious. A good spot - we'll be back.
