We stayed in the Beatrix room which had two bedrooms and was much larger that I expected. It had two large living areas, a large dining area, a large kitchen and a small little eating area in the balcony. It takes up one entire floor and the lift opens directly into the apartment (but plenty secure due to the way the keys work). The Penthouse area is open to everyone and was fabulous as well. It has coffee and snacks and indoor and outdoor dining area as well as a rooftop overlook of the harbor. We arrived early and the property manager (Alexandra) brought us up there and made us coffee and provided some snacks while we waited. The location is great, just a few minutes walk from the Upper Barraka Gardens and relatively central for Valletta.

Arriving in Valletta to be greeted by all this fabulous architecture in wonderful honey coloured stone, is the most appropriate foreword to getting to The Prince D 'Orange. A beautiful building exquisitely restored to perfection. The greeting staff made me feel I was at home. The apartment was superbly appointed with even the smallest detail minutely carefully considered. From the furnishings to the linen nothing was not perfect. I loved sitting on the terrace every morning drinking my double espresso, thoughtfully made available at the common kitchen and eating my Croissant I bought at a great bakery three steps away from the front door. Looking at the view from the terrace one can't help but think of Malta's glorious and heroic history. I spent an awfully long time looking around the building and what I found particularly fascinating was the Piano Nobile which is restored to it's historical magnificence with the most exquisite taste and appropriate furnishings. As most of us do, when I discover a treasure of a place I want to keep it to myself but in this case it would be wrong. I suggest you all go and stay there as it would most definitely enhance your Malta experience.

Apartment Alexander is beautifully furnished, comfortable, well equipped, spacious and well maintained. The lift which delivers you right into your apartment is brilliant. However the lack of outside space is a problem, the small balcony overlooks the back of neighbouring buildings where air conditioning units are noisy and, at times, smelly. The roof terrace is lovely but is two floors above. It sometimes felt like troglodyte accommodation. The bed could have been better. We rarely saw anyone in reception but the charming cleaner was very helpful.
