“Old World Feel with Modern Amenities and Outstanding Staff”

Our daughter chose this little gem of a hotel as a gift for my husband and me for a three-night stay after we cared for her children so she could perform a concert in Firenze-Florence earlier that month. (She is a world class mezzo-soprano.) Charming and old in a good way, we felt bathed in the atmosphere of this romantic former residence. The bed was comfortable and the mattress, new. Every member of staff performed their duties with class and decorum, and the manager who checked us in reminded us of Martin Short in both looks and mannerisms. Antonio’s English was excellent, and he was very helpful in contacting the police on the last night of our stay, when my crossover purse was unzipped by thieves on a crowded bus, and my cell phone stolen. (I cannot stress enough how important it is to keep your valuables inside your clothing. Thievery is an art here, and while local Carabinieri are very handsome, and look smashing in their well-tailored midnight blue uniforms with red trim and shiny buttons, tourists cell phones, even those containing five weeks worth of vacation images that, it turns out, never backed up to iCloud, is very low on their list of priorities. We followed that phone all over Rome with “Find My” but were never able to recover it.) Okay. The hotel is intimate, but not small. Our three little rooms contained a day bed in one, a desk my husband immediately nabbed to set up his laptop and charging station (he felt right at home) and a nice bedroom with a window for air, a TV we never turned on, so I can’t comment but it looked new, and a great bed. (Eric loved it, as the villa in Amalfi, where we’d just spent five nights, was a bit softer than he liked.) There was also a small fridge and the usual hot water maker stand, with an assortment of coffees and teas. The WiFi signal is strong and dependable. The bathroom was also in two smaller rooms, with a modern shower, plenty of hot water, toilet, bidet and sink with a nice mirror. Be sure to ask where the light switches can be found. One was IN the mirror! Breakfast. Ahhhhhhh. I don’t know who first came up with the idea of having breakfast included in your stay, but it was genius. And this breakfast…yum! Meats, eggs and cheeses, breads, (oh-fresh Italian bread!) Little cooked delights and cold cereals-fruit of every kind in season, and all fresh and delicious. Nutella. Yes. Nutella was there, as well as the blood orange and regular orange and apple juices. A server fussed around, making sure we were comfortable and had anything our hearts desired. We’d had our own sous chef at the villa, making fresh breakfast for us every morning, but there was more to choose from here at Relais Le Clarisse, and it was almost as amazing! If Rachel comes to perform in Rome sometime, she may want to skip the five star hotels and opt instead for this lovely oasis. Shopping! I almost forgot-a market sets up tents each morning across from the hotel! One featured second-hand vintage which I love! I only had time when Eric waited for the taxi to drive us to the airport, but I managed to find some delightful handmade lace that would fit into my crowded suitcase. Our first night here, Eric found a shoe shop across the street from our hotel, and it was open late. The proprietor knew exactly what he wanted when he explained he needed new performance shoes. He’s a jazz man-saxes and woodwinds, mostly-and must stand for a lot of solos. He needed room for his toes, and nothing too shiny-just a good leather that will hold up. The man nodded and brought back just one box. It fit perfectly, and was exactly what he wanted. We were in and out in ten minutes! Nothing beats Italian shoes. One more thing about our hotel manager. Antonio. We had five tours scheduled for just three days, and we showed them to him, hoping we could figure out a path to take so we wouldn’t back-track or waste time. He knew exactly what we needed, and ripped off a large map from a pad of maps! He laid it on the counter, and got out an assortment of pens to mark where we were, which busses to take, and how to walk where we needed to go. It was like magic! Miss you, Antonio and Staff. Hope we can return one day. I need to retake all those forever lost photos I took of your place to post in Trip Advisor! I did send one to my daughter. Once my new phone can do photos again, I will get her to send it to me, and post it here.

“Simply Bellissima!”

This place is a lovely hidden treasure in the middle of the Trastevere. To be met by the amazing Cecilia at reception after a long flight from Australia was bliss. This place is a lovely hidden treasure in the middle of the Trastevere. To be met by the amazing Cecilia at reception after a long flight from Australia was bliss. The genuine welcoming and passionate hospitality service delivered from Cecilia and all the hotel staff is a rare thing these days. The property is quaint, comfortable and has everything you need for a lovely stay, with the added bonus of being steps from everything in a safe place.

Loved staying in Trastevere and this hotel was great! Great location, helpful & friendly staff, nice spacious room (we booked a Suite with Garden View), beautiful courtyard and an amazing, delicious breakfast (loved the daily quiches!). We really enjoyed our stay here while we toured Rome and would definitely stay here again. Some tips: - room key is an app on your phone - hotel offers private car airport pickup which we used and enjoyed - front desk can give recommendations on restaurants and sites in Trastevere - hotel has umbrellas

“Wonderful stay, great location and staff”

We stayed for a week with the family and it was a wonderful experience! The location is perfect, close to the sights and restaurants in Trastevere but also not too far away from the historic center. Rooms are not the biggest but very clean and friendly staff is always there for you in case you need… more

We stayed for a week with the family and it was a wonderful experience! The location is perfect, close to the sights and restaurants in Trastevere but also not too far away from the historic center. Rooms are not the biggest but very clean and friendly staff is always there for you in case you need anything. We only booked the overnight rate but you can get an optional breakfast for a small fee, so good we ended up in the cozy courtyard almost every day with a nice selection of food and drinks. Thanks again to the wonderful people at Le Clarisse and we are very happy to come back for our next trip to Rome!
