“The hotel stuff deserves at least a review”

The hotel is very clean and tidy. The building is huge. 8 restaurants a lot of lobbys where you can chill. We used the conference room and cinema as we needed it for our lessons. Special time spent was drinking cocktail from bar chef serhat who makes his own cocktail creations, very special stuff.

We visited the Pine Bay Resort for a week, Monday to Monday, in September. We had actually stayed here for a week in 2008 and we were interested to see how much the hotel complex had changed. There has been much investment in the bars and restaurant areas but unfortunately the refurbishment had not extended to our room which was tired and dirty. We had paid for an upgrade to a sea view room which we did have, but the carpets were covered in dirty marks and the standard of housekeeping was very poor. Tuesday the water in the 'fridge was not replenished . Wednesday there were no towels. Thursday there was no sheet on the bed and there was no shower gel in the bathroom . All reported to reception who to their credit did rectify everything with the exception of the bed linen. We were supplied with two frayed duvet covers on Thursday evening which we put onto the single duvets in the wardrobes and that was the last time housekeeping touched the bed . Food and drinks were quite good apart from the rum running out on the Wednesday, back on Friday then running out again on the Sunday. The buffet restaurant was good although it did start to become repetitive. It does get very busy and there was a lot of pushing and shoving at certain times. We did notice that at breakfast cold dishes were being put onto the hot plates to warm through which is not ideal from a food contamination point. The staff in the buffet restaurant fell into two categories, those who were pleased to serve and those who couldn't be bothered. We ate in the Al a Carte restaurants twice and they were both very enjoyable with good service. This resort is huge and located in a beautiful area. The sunsets in the evening are fantastic. The location to the archaeological site of Ephesus is very convenient. The reception staff were great and called for a taxi to take us there (about 20 minutes ride) The taxi cost 60 Euros but they pick you up at the hotel entrance, take you to Ephesus and return for you after two hours. A taxi into Kusadasi is 10 Euros but you can jump onto the dolmus bus at the main gate which costs 20Tl (about 60p). These buses just do circular routes so when you want to go back to the hotel you can just catch it where you got off in town. This hotel would probably appeal to families more than couples. There did seem to be a lot of entertainment for children but little for adults. The Sunset bar did seem to have a lot of people playing cards in the evening as there was no entertainment. The hotel itself was clean as were the pools it was just disappointing that the rooms were not as pleasant. We understand the hotel is now part of the Hilton Group so hopefully there will be a refurbishment programme in the future to improve the rooms.
