We stayed for two nights late September and it was a lot better than expected. Positives: - LOCATION! We would not have gotten a better location, on La Rambla at £20 per night, having booked last minute on the day - They were nice and helpful, especially the cleaning lady who was trying to give me directions in English - We were probably quite lucky with the room we got. It was facing the inner courtyard so the noise was minimal. We were waking up at noon and didn't get home from the pub until 2am so noise probably wouldn't have mattered much (nightlife is awesome!) - The place seemed very hygenic. It was clean everywhere, and I could notice the soap smell from the corridoor before entering the pension entrance! The whole place including duvets and pillows smelt of soap, which was really nice. :) No dust or spiders webs. - The room was quite spacious - Very nice and warm shower (again very clean) - Towels were provided Negatives: - The entrance is quite hard to spot. I kept walking past it! - No air conditioning, but we stayed late September so the outside temperature was comfortable - No shampoos/soap/toothbrush - Our window didn't close properly, but it wasn't an issue Conclusion: We probably wouldn't choose to stay here in summer/winter when we would probably want air conditioning, but we had a lovely time here and considering the amazing location and price, I would definitely choose to stay here again. We're students and were on a budget, didn't need luxury rooms or shampoos, and got everything else we needed - very satisfied.

If you have done Koh Sahn Road, Bangkok, you would know this type of place. A rabbit warren of rooms, singles without windows, doors that won't close, fans that sound like 747s landing, hotter than hell, prostitutes outside. But hey, I needed a bolt-hole between arriving by plane and leaving by train, I have been to Barcelona lots already and didn't want to stay and I chose this place because it was both cheap and central. Which is why everybody else chooses it, so don't come here expecting the Hilton if you want to pay backpacker prices. My plane was delayed and I got in at 4.30am, yeah fun, but the clerk was there and carried my bags up the steep stairs and the Spanish women who cleans and helped me force open my door the next morning couldn't have been more charming. All in all, Pension Picasso is a good memory for me.

This is a no-nonsense place, certainly not for the fancy traveller, or if you want to spend much time in your hotel room. But it certainly has something to offer from old times, when in the 1930s intellectuals, immigrants lived in cheap hotels all around Europe. The room was very small and it could certainly do with an extra bedside lamp, and if you don't want to share toilet and bathroom, don't go there. But it was cheap and in an excellent location: close to everything, I adored living on the Ramblas, yes, noisy, but it has the essence of the city, if it bothers you, don't go there. I Paris I slept in a hotel over a café and once it was raining so I closed the window Slept much worse without the street noise - weird, I know. I loved I only had to walk a little after a drink at night, the metro is also very close. And no problem to go home during the day to change shoes if my feet hurt. There was a coffee-dispenser on the floor, 80 cents for coffee, very helpful to start the day. Oh well, my bf has an apartment in Barcelona, so now we stay there when we go there, so it is unlikely if I will stay in Pension Picasso again, but I think if I needed a place to spend a few nights, I would. Remark: I stayed there in November 2011. Unfortunately I cannot select this option among the dates below.
