“I loved it.”

It’s far from the city center, but it’s nice. It has nice surroundings and the rooms are cool. Small but comfortable. We couldn’t have a shower because the hot water wasn’t working, but in exchange they gave us free breakfast, so.. Not that bad.

We picked this place mainly because we could bring our dog. Rooms - small and sufficient. Beds were not the nicest but the duvets and sheets were clean and comfortable. I would say that the heating would not be enough for winter though. Facade needs a bit of upkeep like a fresh coat of paint or outside cleaning. Food - communal dining area was cozy and clean. The breakfast was great - they offered bread, cereals, oats, jam, cold cuts, cheese, juice, coffee, yogurt. Bathrooms - communal bathrooms were clean and spacious. Staff - need a bit of work in terms of being present at the reception counter or in the premises. They are also not very approachable, but I'm not quite sure if that is just a cultural thing that I sensed but they didn't seem very friendly and happy to me. Location - not super close to the center but there is a bus stop right outside so it should be pretty easy to go here with public transportation. Parking - they advertise on booking websites that the parking is "FREE," well in fact, there is NO PARKING at all. There is no dedicated area where guests with cars can park. "Parking" is "free for all" on the street outside the hotel and can be quite horrendous at times, competing with residents and other people in the area. My boyfriend would drop me off at the entrance (since I was pregnant) and would usually be able to find parking 1-2km away. Overall, the place was ok for the price we paid. Our dog had a lovely time.

“No Creature Comforts.”

Visited with a mate (both 18-years old) and I have to say its definitely just a glorified camp site. There are A LOT of shady people hanging around and I have no idea if some of them are staying here or what. The cubes themselves are pretty comfortable. We had a bunkbed with a desk and a few chairs which, to be honest, did the job just fine. My least favourite part about the place was the wash facilities. If dirty floors with cold water on the floor that hasn't drained away, isn't your thing, look elsewhere. The showers are harrowingly cold, and in the 7 days we stayed here, only once were they actually warm (maybe because this particular occasion was at 4pm)? The site itself is generally quite tidy but the other people there had no problem blasting all sorts of continental music very loudly at any point during the day. Also, its worth noting the bar music they play in the evening can be heard loudly from your cube, even if your door is closed. God help anyone staying on a Wednesday (latin music night). Overall I would say, anyone who expects this to be more hotel rather than hostel, should look elsewhere. It is very much a hostel with lots of bizarre characters in your face at all times. Oh, and the wifi is next to useless since it doesn't reach any of the cubes and in the lounge it simply doesn't work.

We stayed at the Scube because we wanted to be able to say we stayed in a cube in the middle of the park in Berlin. Well, that's exactly what we got. It's backpacker accomodation with a twist, which should be remembered when getting excited about the funkiness of this idea. While I wouldn't change it for the world, the bunk beds are not all that well thought out, our cube had the double bed as the top bunk. Sleeping two people became a terrifying experience, so we had to sleep separately. Keep this in mind if you're not a slender Betty, these beds are precarious if you're not super light. My partner scared the hell out of me every time he rolled over, the wood moving is very loud. The bar is funky, the drinks are cheap and we had an amazing time sitting there listening to music after our days of sight seeing. There's also the best Korean BBQ place just down the road. (I'm Australian, it might have been a couple of blocks, who knows). The showers are backpacker style always wet, wear shoes! SHOWER BEFORE 7am IF YOU LIKE HOT WATER! Otherwise, you're going to have a bad time. The staff were amazingly friendly. Wouldn't stay again, but happy for the experience.
