Located less than a 5 minute walk from the heart of the historic city center, less than 10 from the bus station and pretty much a 15 minute walk to all that the town of Paraty has to offer. Pousada Marendaz is awesome. Comfortable beds, clean rooms and a big shower. Flat screen TV, small fridge, and air conditioning, ceiling fan with two windows to a room allow for perfect temperature even in the heat of day. Daily breakfast includes fresh squeezed orange juice, eggs, cereal, tea, coffee and a variety of fruits and is served until 10am (not 9!!!). Solid wifi and friendly staff, even has a small pool! Found myself feeling at home in no time. They even helped with booking a jeep tour and other activities. Highly recommend.

“Average”

Average rooms, very basic breakfast but good location. The shower was quite nice and the air con was good. The staff were pretty miserable - don’t think they cracked a smile once. Overall I would recommend this hotel for the location.

I stayed here for two nights. The room I stayed in was number 13 nice with a double bed and one single. There was only one socket in the room and we had a fridge which was plugged into it. The other socket was in the bathroom. The shower was not hot and make sure to double lock your door as you can still get into the room after you turn the key in the lock once. The hotel has a nice court yard with a Jacuzzi but the weather wasn't suitable to use it. The staff were all very friendly and kind. We had breakfast two mornings and there was lots of choice: Yogurt Cereal: Porridge and granola Fruit: banana's, pineapple, watermelon, papaya, melon Bread: sliced pan and lovely fresh crispy bread rolls- pity no brown bread at all. Ham and cheese Scrambled egg Freshly squeezed orange juice Banana smoothie/ freshly squeezed orange juice Jams and butter Tea and Coffee It was in a good location and the Wi-Fi was good.

If Trip Advisor let you give a .5 score I'd be giving Pousada Marendaz a 3.5/5. Check-in was easy and the lady on reception friendly and my first impression of my room was good - a decent size, large bathroom, slightly outdated decor but all clean and tidy. All this remained throughout the stay except that I discovered the bed was one of the hardest I've ever slept on - really no give in it at all! The first night was also a bit chilly. Hot water took a while to come through in the shower (but was then boiling). Lights were adequate. No bedside light. My room wasn't made up or the bathroom bin emptied during my stay but this might have been because I took my key with me when I was out - I hadn't been asked to leave it behind though. Wifi was okay. Breakfast was good; the usual Brazilian mix of fruit, bread, cake, ham and cheese and on the first day I was offered scrambled eggs too. The pousada is brilliantly located a very short walk from the historic centre, from the bus station and there's a supermarket just down the road too. The major let-down with Pousada Marendaz is the total lack of sound insulation. Rooms are located around an internal courtyard (pretty, with a hot tub and plants) and breakfast is served in one corner of the courtyard between 8am and 10am. If someone's down there talking every word carries into the rooms around, especially if they're having a loud phone conversation. So each morning I was woken earlier than I'd have liked, being on holiday and trying to relax, by noise in the courtyard. On the third night, which was a Saturday, the family who own the pousada appear to have got their extended family or friends over to stay and they had a BBQ with music playing until almost midnight. Once the music was turned off the talk continued. I should probably have gone to ask them to be a bit quieter but without speaking Portuguese wasn't sure I would have succeeded. Sounded like a fun party but by about 11.30pm I was really wanting some sleep! I enjoyed my stay here but it could have been more relaxing and more pleasant without the noise problem and with a more comfortable bed.
