We booked this hotel as an overnight stop on way to munich, this was a mistake, We should have booked for more nights, The hotel is well located for the black forrest area but the outstanding feature was the hotel and the owner and staff, we were treated to the type of service that you could not get from a chain hotel, The room was well appointed and had a balcony surrounded by flowers giving it the typical bavarian feel, we had a meal in the restaurant that was excelent and very good value, the breakfast ( included in price ) was also of a high standard, I can recomend this hotel, ( we have booked again for our return journey but for two nights this time. )

“Super hotel”

We have stayed here now 2 times for a overnight stay on the way to Austria. Very nice hotel, very good price to quality. Our dog likes it a lot here. Honest good kitchen, nice beer and just 100 mtrs from the woods of the Schwarzwald.

“Family run Gasthaus”

Hertzogsweilwer is just outside Pfalzgrafenweiler in the Schwarzwald. You have to travel to find much else to see or do. Though nearby Dornstetten is very attractive. Hertzogsweilwer is just outside Pfalzgrafenweiler in the Schwarzwald. You have to travel to find much else to see or do. Though nearby Dornstetten is very attractive. Hotem Sum Hirsch is an old traditional German Gasthaus with a large bar and dining area on the left as you first come into the building. The staff and owners were very friendly and helpful advising us on what to see, where to go and about discounts on the railway and bus networks. In the bar/restaurant there is a large table covered with brochures from activity and sightseeing locations etc, while the staff went out of their way to get us some in English. Behind this was the breakfast area. Surprisingly, the serving bowls with cereals were out and uncovered on display. The room was small and up a couple of steep dark staircases. The shower room was tiny and dark till they replaced a blown bulb for us. The bed had a pull up section at the head to give a raised sleeping position if needed. This was pulled up to show on the second night - maybe they’d spotted the folded over pillow I’d constructed the night before? None-the-less it was clean and maintained while we were there. On the hand basin there was liquid soap for hand washing, but nothing provided for the shower. We enjoyed the very diverse breakfast of eggs, meats, sausages, breads etc with much more on offer. We avoided the cereals. We only had dinner on the first night, decided it was decidedly average and probably reheated rather than cooked fresh. There were many guests outside each evening - mainly locals I’m guessing with many dogs in the back of their cars.
