“Good rates”

Good rates for on mountain resort accommodations. Rooms dated but comfortable. A little noisy in the early morning with traffic from the hill groomers returning to their base and plows. Convenient to the chair lifts and Nordic trails.

“Five star skiing, three star lodge”

I have skied Vail, Snowmass, Telluride, and Big Sky; Grand Targhee had the best snow. A reasonably busy week before Christmas and barely a wait on any lift line. I have skied Vail, Snowmass, Telluride, and Big Sky; Grand Targhee had the best snow. A reasonably busy week before Christmas and barely a wait on any lift line. This is a great ski area for advanced intermediates or a blue-black mountain. Only one green run outside of the learning area. We liked the more down-to-earth, non-corporate feel of the resort. Everyone was super friendly and helpful. They have two good ski shops and a nice selection of demo skis from the rental center. Location-wise, the Sioux Lodge could not be more convenient; we literally skied back right to the front door of our first-floor unit and a very short walk to the lifts to start the day. Also, a ski locker outside the door made it even easier. The two bedroom is pretty basic accommodation. It's kind of like a clean extended-stay motel. The food at the resort is like the accommodation, just okay. You need to drive down to Driggs if you want something better. For example, we picked up burgers from the Trapp Bar, and they didn't need to know how we wanted them cooked because they were Smash burgers. Also, stop in Driggs to pick up groceries on your way to Grand Targhee; the General Store just has basics.

We have been skiing at Grand Targhee for over 25 years, with annual trips, usually in January. Nearly all stays have been in the Sioux Lodge. Sometimes on the top level with a Loft level+Murphy bed and full bath, sometimes on the ground level with a bunk room/queen bed room lower level and Murphy bed on main level with one full and one half-bath. They have remodeled somewhat over the years. Originally, all had a fireplace and mini-kitchen facility. Now all fireplaces are gone, and only the ground floor units actually have anything resembling a kitchen. The other rooms have a mini-fridge and coffee maker and toaster, but NO sink. (We have planned ahead, and done dishes in the bathtub) Practically forces one to dine out for nearly all meals (which may be their objective, who knows) The rooms are adequate, and we’ve always had a good time, but rooms could use an upgrade. The dining table in the ground floor unit is one of those tall, square, cabaret style heights, which is less useful for family size gatherings with small kids. Have never been during summer months, and there is no AC in Sioux Lodge, although at an elevation of 8000 ft, it’s rarely all that warm.
