“Great Place to Stay.”

Great location in the centre of Lewes. Beautiful building. Close to good pubs , the Castle and independent shops. Lovely room. Good shower. Excellent breakfast with porridge and choice of cooked breakfast. Nice friendly and helpful staff.

I ate here as part of a business event and found the staff to be very helpful and the food to be very good. The building has a rich history going back many years and prior to being a hotel and restaurant, was most recently the meeting place of East Sussex County Council. The property is just back from the busy High Street and the garden at the rear of the building has good views of the Downs. A small drawback is the very limited parking available on a first come first served basis. There is a reasonable amount of parking nearby including at the station, but all is fairly expensive.

Stay here Sat 6th October for 1 night, we were there for a wedding reception. Checked in at 15:45, given room 41, went to walk in but was stopped by a member of staff (no uniform but presumed he was staff) advising that the room was not ready. Stay here Sat 6th October for 1 night, we were there for a wedding reception. Checked in at 15:45, given room 41, went to walk in but was stopped by a member of staff (no uniform but presumed he was staff) advising that the room was not ready. So back down the 2 flights of stairs / long corridor we go, back to reception. Was then given room 42, which was even further away. Room was ok, we had an 'executive' room, not really sure how they can charge £190 for this room, our fellow guests staying in same level of room agreed. Several stains on bedside tables, carpet. Paint peeling off the walls. One biscuit / tea bag between the two us, so called reception for more. One positive was that the bathroom was modern and clean. Breakfast was nice, I had the full English, Mrs had the continental. Service was quick and friendly. Overall I would not stay here again or recommend to others.

Not an ideal stay as they do not advise that there is no car parking at the hotel and reception were not terribly helpful in advising where to park for non locals! Not an ideal stay as they do not advise that there is no car parking at the hotel and reception were not terribly helpful in advising where to park for non locals! Paint on room was peeling off the wall and room was restricted in head height as it was in the eaves. Other than room was ok but a trek to the top floor and rooms were very poorly signed. Mine was behind a wedge open fire door! Hotel was OK and probably great if you do not drive and want to be in the town centre. Breakfast was OK but eggs bendict was only egg benedict! A bit overpriced in my view for what it was. It could be much better.
