“Lovely, cosy chateau with awesome food”

Lovely, cosy French Chateau with great service and awesome food. They couldn’t do enough to make our stay very comfortable. We stayed twice during our holiday and the 5 course meal each stay was a highlight of our trip. Large, classic bedroom. Helpful motorcycle parking too!

“Worth another visit”

The new owners, since June 23, run a very pleasant B&B with optional home cooked evening meals which were regional and tasty (good as local restaurants not open). Very quiet and comfortable accommodation and convenient for channel crossing.

We had a great 3 night stay here, the room was very comfortable and plenty of space. Lovely house and very friendly owners. We enjoyed the daily breakfast, and had an evening meal on two nights which was amazing, such lovely home cooked food. The area is lovely, and we enjoyed the local town plus days out in Lens, Arras and St Omer. The large supermarket in the town was great, not as large as the hypermarkets at Calais and St Omer but pretty good! Great location for a short break coming from Uk via Eurotunnel or the ferry.

It has taken me a while to decide what to say about the Moulin. I'd love to have given it a higher rating as it's really trying to be a splendid place, and it has all the potential credentials. However, I came away feeling it had been an expensive experience of a would-be eco friendly hospitality experiment. The room was lovely- a downstairs space with lots of room, but nowhere to sit in the light to do makeup. It was quiet and the bed was comfortable. The bathroom was long and poorly lit with a shower that was powerful and hot, but very noisy. There was no indication of a WiFi password and as it seemed bit 21st century to worry we never asked for one, so can't tell you if there was WiFi! The meal was perfectly ok. Soup then pate, a Belgian stew as a main and a dessert. Good home cooked food, but not for the price we paid. We borrowed the electric bikes, for which we were obliged to put a ring fenced deposit down on our credit card which was fully explained with no quibble from us, but we were not told the cost (€30 each). Again, I don't quibble with a charge, but it was never mentioned at the time of hire. Breakfast the next day was a help yourself buffet, very simple, although we'd been asked to preorder our bakery items to save on waste. Very sensible, but who knows how much they're going to want for breakfast before dinner? We felt embarrassed to ask for very much. Perhaps we don't quite get it, but it wasn't the sumptuous stay I'd had hoped for at a French chateau. It's a shame as the two hosts and their parents were trying so hard.
