“Big improvements at the Burstin”

My Wife and I have been visiting The Grand Burstin three times a year, for well over 15 years, this is my first time writing a review because of many noticeable improvements. Nobody would say that this hotel has had its problems over the years and we have all been guilty of being negative about it. So as we visited a Country music and dancing festival last weekend, 8th, 9th and 10th November 2024 I am delighted to feel able to write some positive comments. On arrival we went to the Reception, two receptionists on duty and they could not have been more helpful, even though we arrived early and could not access the room they allowed us to register and pay for the car park and told us what our room number would be. We felt welcomed by the attitude. Over the 3 days we were there it was obvious to us that Managers were visible as well as Security. Overall the Hotel looks like it has had a spruce up, things look clean and tidy. This hotel is not new so allowance must be made for it’s age but it was clean and tidy. Everything in our room worked fine, the kettle lid was loose so I reported that to Reception and they immediately changed it for me. No Hotel is perfect but how a hotel resolves any issues is a very good measure. The Grand Burstin gets 10/10 from me on that score. The staff, many of whom have been there for a very long time and recognise us like old friends, this makes us feel very welcome and we can often have a great laugh with them, this time even with Chef Terry who was asked to come to our table by our friendly server. Is it perfect? No. Is it massively improved? Yes, yes, yes! The environment around the Hotel really does make it worth a visit. From the Harbour opposite, walking across the harbour on the old railway line, the old station and all the food, Artisan food and drink and market stalls to the sea food stalls and Artists quarter that are all with very easy walking distance (minutes). If your view was clouded in past years, especially pre-covid do consider visiting again, you may be pleasantly surprised.

You get what you pay for the room was decent overlooking the harbour most the staff was nice but just felt lacking for the Turkey and tinsel one day Christmas dinner crackers on the table but no atmosphere they did put on some Christmas night entertainment and that was it nothing for New Year’s Eve just the resident singer and finished at 10.30 not sure would visit again
