Stayed at hotel for 5 nights. Old rambling hotel with good sized bedrooms. Reception usually helpful, unless you spoke to some who had limited english, but usually someone there to help. Stayed at hotel for 5 nights. Old rambling hotel with good sized bedrooms. Reception usually helpful, unless you spoke to some who had limited english, but usually someone there to help. Breakfast buffet was extensive enough to find plenty of choices. The lay out of the hotel requires a bit of walking depending on where you are and what facility you are looking for in Hotel. The ski hire/lunchtime restaurant area is at one end of building. The Indoor/outdoor Onsen was quite good, but always busy , mainly to it being open to the public ( for a fee ) as well. The ski in ( almost ) ski out facility was great for G/kids with us to learn to ski.

Really enjoyed staying at the Madarao Kogen Hotel. Found the location fantastic right at the bus stop and short ski to lifts. Staff were helpful and facilities were suitable to our need . Breakfast buffet was also good . The vending machines were a little expensive so next time I would stock up at the supermarket in Iiyama. I would definitely stay here again.

This is the major hotel for Madaro Kogen Ski Resort. the Naganden bus from IIyama station stops right at the front steps, so no need for a taxi if you time your Shinkansen to this bus (yen700). This is no cosy, intimate hotel. The hotel is often crowded with school groups, who although are in another wing, tie up the onsen for 2 hours every afternoon and guests are forbidden during these times. The onsen is lovely, both inside and outside pools, sauna and cold pool. Our western room with ensuite was a good size with excellent luggage stand with draws and hanging space. Pillows are hard. Our bathroom did have a slightly funky smell present during entire stay but our friend next door did not have the same problem. Nice Yukata, good ski lock system and key drop. Front desk staff helpful and buffet dinner and breakfast was cheaper prebooked with our room, provided variety and a good meal for our vegetarian friend, although the quality was marginal. I recommend earplugs. The walls and doors are not soundproof. Also while ski out there is a short uphill walk back. Convenience store and cafe on site. Wifi slow when it gets busy.
