“Excellent staff!”

We stayed here for 2 nights as part of a coach trip to Orkney. Staff were excellent, so friendly and couldn't do enough to help :) Room was great, very spacious and clean. Food was fine, but one night we chose to pay to eat in the bar instead, It was steak night so excellent value and great food! Willd efinitely stay here again.

“Nice food”

Stayed here for 1 night while waiting to get to the ferry for Orkney. Stayed here for 1 night while waiting to get to the ferry for Orkney. As stated we were underwhelmed by the outside of the building but we were given a ground floor room so we thought great no stairs to lift cases up, the room was clean and a bit small with a view into nextdoors septic tank, there was quite a bit of noise from the kitchen which was right next door to our room so would never request this room again. We had dinner in the hotel and have to say it was very good and the breakfast was also very good. Would definitely stay here again if we were up that way but definitely not the room next to the kitchen.

A others have observed, we were a little underwhelmed when we first saw the hotel from the street and braced ourselves for a mediocre experience. But the reality was a very pleasant contrast. The hotel is clean, comfortable, well run by plentiful, friendly and helpful staff. The hotel and dinner was inexpensive, so, again we weren't expecting much, but it was simply good value and, as others have observed, the food was tremendous. There were little touches that made if feel relaxed and friendly, like the radio playing in dining room and reception area - not sure why that makes a difference, but it just makes the place feel welcoming and not too uptight. There is a small car park at the back with space for motorcycles, which will be important to some of the NC500 visitors (I'm a biker, but was here with family on this occasion) and could see that it is biker friendly, but equally appropriate for families and other travellers. Although the decor was a little tired in places, it was a great stay and an expectation buster.

Decided at last minute to have night away with my dog. Good pricing and pet friendly which was fab. Tried calling on 2 separate occasions first to advise about my dog coming as no option to leave on bookings.com no answer on both. There was a messaging service but as travelling a couple of hours and driving, that was a no. Check in alright.Lassie doing check in didn't seem overly happy. Room clean and tidy ample for what u needed. This was on ground floor and right at front. Ordered dinner and that was fab. Settled in for night and could her the traffic outside but that was OK as it was still early. It seems in a small village they still have boy racers. (Not hotel fault ) window closed did not drown that out. Walls in room door a bit thin. Could hear person peeing and having conversation on the phone at near 1 am. Breakfast . Well I assumed due to room number on tables then obviously that's where you sit. No waitress around to advice. Got some breakfast and waitress finally came and asked if I wanted coffee after helping other guests to their table and arranging tea/coffee. At point of leaving still waiting for coffee!! 2 waitresses on 2 separate occasions both looking glum. Not hard to crack a smile. Would I stay again? I would like to think so. Hopefully the girls were just having a bad day.
