“Fab experience”

Excellent overall. Spacious rooms, good food and all hotel staff very friendly and helpful. Pools including small indoor one and the water park great.TUI activity leaders very good with kids (and adults!) and generally v professional making experience something to remember. Highly recommended.

We stay at Blue Aura in the first week of October as family of four (kids 10 & 7). This is a brilliant hotel with loads to do for the kids including the amazing on site waterpark. The food was really good at both the restaurant and the pool bar, great selection and different foods every day/evening. The entertainment both during the day and the evening is brilliant for adults and kids, loads to get involved with including quizzes, concerts, football. All the staff were friendly and helpful. We would definitely come to this hotel again if we were holidaying in the north of the island. Nearby is a beach and a town with plenty amenities. And the busier party town of San Antonio is a short taxi away.

“OK but certainly not the standard we expected from a 'TUI Blue' hotel!”

My wife and I booked this holiday on a 'late deal' just 3 weeks before departure paying just £550 each. We had previously been on 3 holidays this year to 'All Inclusive' hotels located in the Algarve and each of these hotels had been excellent so this latest holiday to the 'Tui Blue Aura' had a lot to live up to! This was both our first trip to Ibiza and the first time we had chosen a 'Tui Blue' and we only did so on this occasion because of the excellent reviews. On arrival at the hotel we immediately had to pay 23 Euros each to cover the Spanish 'Tourist Tax' - this compares to only 14 Euros each when in Portugal and I believe the Spanish are looking to substantially increase the daily rate next year so beware! We were allocated room 6201 - an apartment on the 2nd floor but on opening the door, we were immediately overwhelmed by the strong smell of drains. We quickly identified the source as being the waste 'trap' in the shower floor and by covering the 'trap' with a wet towel to suppress the smell and opening the balcony door, we managed to quickly disperse the smell and the wet towel stayed in place for the remainder of our holiday! In addition to the smell, we also found 20-30 dead flies on the window sill and a similar number on the bathroom floor and in the shower cubical itself - clearly, the room had not been used for some time and no one had bothered to check it before we arrived! We immediately reported the 'fly situation' to reception together with the fact that the TV in our bedroom wasn't working and to their credit, the dead flies were largely gone and the TV playing within a couple of hours. The hotel has a large 'main pool' area but the majority of the sunbeds are so tightly packed in rows that the only way of getting on to them was to shuffle up from the bottom! Fortunately, this was not their busiest time of year and we did find a couple of sun beds at the end of a row in a quieter part of the pool area which enabled us to move our sunbeds around and not be 'elbow to elbow' with a neighbour. However, I certainly wouldn't want to be there anytime during their peak season which would be my idea of hell! The food in the main restaurant was ok but nothing special and certainly no where as good as any of the 3 previous hotels in Portugal but having paid only £550 each, I guess we couldn't really complain. We did book a meal in the Japanese 'Teppanyaki Restaurant' which consistently gets rave reviews. However, this was extremely disappointing for although it was certainly an 'experience' with lots of dramatic flames, when the food was eventually served-up, it was both cold and and in my opinion very insipid. In addition, our drinks didn't arrive until we had finished our cold starter - I do realise that sushi is supposed to be served cold but the coconut prawns and noodles certainly were not! To add insult to injury, before we had even finished our main meal, the chefs were presenting us with bits of paper with a photocopy of a QR code for completing a 'review' together with additional strips of paper listing the names of all the staff to include in the review! No wonder they get so many reviews with many of the guests tapping away on their phones to submit a review whilst trying to finish their cold meal but I for one was not going to be pressurised into completing a review and certainly not a positive one as the meal was rubbish and a massive disappointment! A couple of days later, we booked a meal at their second 'speciality restaurant' - the 'Taverna Restaurant'. We anticipated a similar experience as the 'Teppanyaki' but were extremely surprised to find that the meal was excellent being cooked to order and the service from all the staff was superb! Special mention to the restaurant manager - I don't know his name but he was dressed as 'Beetlejuice' as our booking coincided with their Halloween celebrations which were brought forward to 22nd October as the hotel would be shut by 31st! I can even say that the meal at 'The Taverna' was better than we had at ANY of the speciality restaurants in our 3 previous Portuguese hotels! ALL the hotel staff without exception - from Reception to the cleaning staff were excellent and again, I would give special mention to Kevin who single handedly ran the Lobby Bar. He was always busy doing something but was invariably very friendly, efficient and always made a good coffee or cocktail - BRILLIANT! The numerous 'Animation'/entertainment staff worked hard all day to keep the guests entertained - some were talented singers and dancers who put on a number of 45 minute 'shows' from 9.00pm. They also brought in 3 outside acts to give some variety. I also have to mention the 'all inclusive' drinks offering. The spirits were of really poor quality - I found a rum & coke to be absolutely disgusting and my wife's gin & tonic was also undrinkable and apart from Kevin's cocktails in the Lobby Bar, we basically drank only coke, wine, the occasional beer and their very nice 'Pink Cava' during our stay. Whenever we go on holiday, we like to walk at least 5 miles per day in the local area. On our first trip out, we headed towards San Antonio along the coastal path which was just a very rough track past several abandoned building sites, horrible apartment blocks with rusting fire escapes and air conditioning units whilst constantly scanning the ground in front of you to avoid stepping in the numerous piles of dog poo! Fortunately, we soon discovered that turning right out of the hotel you soon came to the attractive 'Port des Torrent' beach and beyond that a coastal path along the cliffs which ran for several miles which was both unspoilt by development of any kind and offered great views! For the money we paid for this 'late deal' we had a decent holiday helped by some favourable weather. However, although we were aware of the fact that this is a 'family hotel', I was really surprised by how many kids that were there outside the normal school holidays and I certainly couldn't recommend the hotel for couples without children. I also expected the quality of a 'TUI Blue' hotel to be much higher than this particular hotel turned out to be and I certainly wouldn't consider a 'TUI Blue' at their 'normal' rates which are similar to those for the 3 hotels we stayed in on the Algarve!
