“Nice hotel”

We got upgraded to the penthouse suite free of charge not sure how but it was a nice surprise. The hotel is nice the suite was very nice small wet bar area with a small countertop and a sink. Decent sized living room area for the size of spaced room. Massive outdoor decking area with great views. 2 bedroom with a double sized walk in shower. The hotel is nice all in all. Nice seating areas with seats and plants in the lounge and lobby. The pool is nice also. Theres a small path to the ocean not really for swimming because of all the rocks but nice for views. The grounds are well maintained and great views also. The hotel is a 2 minute drive away from a local beach and 15 minutes drive from the nearest bigger town with more amenities like grocery stores and necessities and more beaches. The town that it’s in had smaller mom and pop stores with cafes. 30 minutes from the main airport. The regular rooms looked nice also. We would stay again it’s kinda placed in the middle of the island and not a huge distance one way or the other for sightseeing. All in all it’s a nice hotel in our opinion and well placed in regards to location.

“Wonderful holiday !!”

We have just returned to UK after a wonderful week at Caloura Resort Hotel.. I can not rate our visit highly enough.. The staff were fabulous, the location is stunning, rooms very comfortable, and there is tea and coffee making families in the room, and food is very good. We were slightly concerned as we took our 11 yr old son and there's not much for children but he absolutely loved it. The pool is huge and immaculately clean, its not heated but even I felt ok in there as warm once in. There is a lovely Bay just a short walk which has a coffee and snack bar close by. The Buffet breakfast is a little pricey but is more than adequate with delicious bread and cheese available. We didn't eat at the buffet other than breakfast because we really liked the Terrace for food.. freshly prepared and delicious, me and my son have odd eating habits and the staff ,who all speak fluent English, were more than happy to adapt meals. Once I realised a latte was called Galao I felt right at home. Beach towels are provided so no need to take any. The hotel can arrange tours and we did an amazing full day lake tour , we also did a whale watching tour which was on my bucket list AMAZING !! Just a 15 min walk (a bit steep) is Casa Do Able a fabulous steak house and very reasonably priced. We absolutely loved our visit to the Azores and Caloura Resort Hotel and will definitely return.... views for days, interesting facts, good food, beautiful ocean and lovely people.. we will be back.

“Great hotel, beautifully located, some good gluten free options”

This hotel is tastefully decorated and has a simply stunning location. The areas to sit and enjoy the views are fantastic; especially the walkway to the sea. This hotel is tastefully decorated and has a simply stunning location. The areas to sit and enjoy the views are fantastic; especially the walkway to the sea. We found the pool and the area round it to be great on the day we weren’t hiking. We ate dinner outside at the snack bar; delicious and again with great views. There were also some GF options, great as a coealiac. The same was true for breakfast with some GF options. We don’t mind a walk so we’re also happy to walk to some really nice local restaurants as well, 15-30 mins away (e.g. Bar Caloura, Adega Caloura). For a five star review there were just some small things missing: offering fresh brewed coffee / tea at breakfast or eggs to order, definitely more hooks or capacity to hang things like wet towels, rain jackets or swimming costumes up in the room; especially if you’re on the top floor where the room balcony has no cover! When it rains, you can’t sit outside or dry things at all, whereas the floors below can. Those smaller niggles aside, we really enjoyed our stay here and it provided a great base for an active holiday but also offering time and space to relax. The outside space and location in particular is stunning. We would definitely come back again!

In almost every way this hotel is a great find. A pleasant place with good light, very clean rooms, centrally located with ample parking and extraordinary views; it is an excellent value for the price. Do not expect luxury, but do anticipate friendly and helpful service. One could--- if so inclined---vacation in this one spot. The pool is immaculate and huge and there are walks possible on the property as well as into town. The walks are somewhat steep so anyone with challenges walking may not find the walks inviting. Both a buffet breakfast and a buffet dinner are available, and there is a snack bar as well. But there are so many wonderful places to explore on Sao Miguel and car rentals right at the hotel so much more affordable than at the airport that using the hotel as a base to see the rest of the island is irresistible. The management might consider upping their profile a bit with offering quality amenities in the bathroom such as real soap, separate shampoo and conditioner and perhaps a higher grade body lotion. We ate out for dinner both because it was convenient and because buffet style meals are not appealing to us. The breakfast in particular was not inviting with a lot of clatter and the same food every day. It felt like a cafeteria despite the awesome views from the windows. Despite these 2 suggestions; we very much enjoyed our stay and would return.
