“Amazing”

Felt very welcome. Stayed in Auckland for Coldplay Concert. Our room was lovely. Great selection of tea or coffee. Maps printed out on how to get to the venue, where to catch the free train or bus. Also fan trail maps for those who walked there. Really helpful forward thinking.

I stayed at The Grand Hotel with my group. The hotel is very nice, clean, and comfortable, and the buffet breakfast was excellent. Despite having 23 of us to check in, the process was efficient and surprisingly quick. Sandip Jani and his team were exceptional, going above and beyond to accommodate my rather unusual request. “Absolute luxury and exceptional value.”

“Only 4 star at best and too expensive for what you actually get”

This hotel is not 5 star, the rooms are tired and fixtures need updating. This hotel is not 5 star, the rooms are tired and fixtures need updating. Paying over $800 per night one might expect somewhere to put your luggage, a sofa with decent cushions that you can actually get out of, bedside cabinets instead of some plastic coated circular arrangement attached too low to the wall. No pillow menu, bathroom door completely blocks shower unless you close it and laminate all peeling off the bottom due to water damage. Only one tiny cheap brand bottle of shower gel, shampoo and conditioner for 2 people. Absolutely disgusting unknown brand of teabags in room (thank goodness I had my own) yet they serve Twinings in the restaurant. A Nespresso machine but no pods provided so couldn’t use it. There is nowhere to have a coffee or afternoon tea anywhere in the hotel after a morning/day out, the Terrace is only open for breakfast and the other restaurant isn’t open until 5pm. The lobby area is completely unused and wasted as a result. This is what really made me feel ripped off as we had to go traipsing round in the rain trying to find a decent cafe nearby (nothing). Husband used gym and there were unsupervised young kids playing on the equipment and running about shouting whilst the fathers were off swimming. Children should not be allowed in a gym! Then they were running around the pool area jumping in the water. Go swimming very early/late if you want some peace! My advice is go elsewhere, we always used to stay at the Stamford which was light years ahead but obviously that’s now going to be the Marriott and isn’t finished yet, but we will go there next time
