We found this guesthouse by chance when looking for somewhere to stay near Monmouth town, and what a find. For anyone wishing to spend a weekend or longer in an accommodation packed with history then this is the place to be. The heavy dark beams and enormous stone fireplaces hinted at the age of the property, but we were thrilled to know that we were staying in a farmhouse dating back to 1530. Our hosts, Rosie and Derek gave us a lovely welcome and made our stay everything we could have wished for. Rosie's full English breakfast was wonderful and there was also an excellent choice of cereals, yoghurts, fresh fruit, fruit juice and a lovely large pot of tea. We were asked if there was anything in particular that we would like for breakfast and the orange marmalade was there as requested in the morning along with the seeded toasted bread. During our stay, we took our host's kind offer of using the quiet sitting room to read and found this a relaxing room to spend the evening, once again in the company of the building’s history not to mention the many books available to us. The lovely village of Mitchel Troy with its historic St. Michael and All Angels church, is just two miles out and the country road quickly leads down and comes right out at the edge of the town of Monmouth. However, the pavement along the road is very narrow in parts and may be unsuitable for walking with young children. Having read some of the reviews here on this site I feel some of the negative comments regarding the stairs and rooms have been unfairly given. This, after all, is an historic farmhouse and as with any historic building dating back to the 1500s, stairways are going to be steep and upper rooms are going to have low ceilings. For us, this was quintessentially the most perfect and charming place to stay and wished we could have had more time there. Thank you, Rosie and Derek, for making our stay so pleasant and lovely.

The owners of the house we're incredibly friendly and helpful! They have even offeres me a Double room to stay in instead of a Single one : ) Also,the Breakfast was really good - freshly prepared : ) Would definierely stay there again - No doubt ! *****

“Wedding Overnighter”

Needed a place to stay while in the area for a wedding. Stayed two nights and found the owners really nice and very accommodating when another large booking came in at short notice. Nice house, tasty breakfast, ample parking and good rates.

A traditional farmhouse b&b very close to the town. A great base from which to explore the Wye Valley and Forest of Dean. Very good breakfast. Really comfortable bed.
