Had an enjoyable stay at the Hyatt Regency for 4 nights. The highlights were the incredible staff at lobby Kitchen breakfast and impeccable housekeeping service provided by Shovan (11th floor housekeeping) throughout our stay. He was extremely hardworking and very professional and pleasant every time we encountered him, even when I accidentally spilled a whole bottle of water over my freshly changed duvet! The lobby kitchen staff were also extremely hardworking amongst the chaos of the breakfast service, I wish they’d have introduced themselves by name so that I could name a few standouts (perhaps this could be instilled in their training) but nonetheless every staff member there were exceptional, even when some other guests were not so polite! I wish that there were more vegan friendly breakfast items - they had eggless waffles which was great, but wish they’d have made them with soya milk to make them vegan friendly. Even most of the breads and pastries contained eggs, which is surely not necessary, so unfortunately I wasn’t able to enjoy any of the sweet/pastry treats at all which is a shame as they looked really good. We had Club access which was a nice space however as we are vegetarian/vegan there were barely any breakfast food options for us so thankfully we were allowed to eat in the main lobby kitchen each breakfast- the lobby kitchen staff accommodated us smoothly due to this which was great. I was only mostly able to have the Indian breakfast items which were decent, they also had soya milk by the cereals. The Club also provides some nibbles and bites in the afternoon and evening, again there wasn’t much for me to eat being a vegan as most things (especially all the desserts) contained eggs and/or dairy. Really wish more vegan friendly options were already provided as they can be enjoyed by everyone. The staff there were also very pleasant and hardworking. The rooms were large with nice sunset views. The pool area was pleasant but only gets sun until early afternoon- after which you are in the shade. I really liked the detox water tanks placed around the lobby and gym area, that is a nice touch. Having a small shopping centre with a supermarket was also handy as I was able to buy some dairy-free milk to keep in my room fridge for my morning tea (they had a large selection of Alpro milks). Considering this hotel was build in the 80s it has aged pretty well. The facade could do with a make over but overall a pleasant hotel if you’re not expecting the flashiness of Dubai. We also paid a visit to the roof terrace pool area, Helios. This was very small but as it was quiet in the evening it was fine. The concept of it being Greek themed seemed dated and out of place and unnecessary in the middle of Dubai… a more Arab theme would suit better, especially as they have great views of the city and the sunset. The location is close to many shops so it’s nice to walk around and explore. Overall we enjoyed our stay and would be happy to come back, I just hope they have more vegan friendly food options next time.

This hotel is based in the heart of the gold souk area of Deira, Dubai. It’s a huge hotel and the reception is lovely - busy but plenty of staff. Having stayed in dozens of hotels across Dubai over a period of 20 years I will pest the pros and cons of this hotel! Pros - short taxi ride from Dubai airport and also walkable to gold souk metro which connects to the airport and most areas of Dubai. Rooms are large and cleaned very well, the bed and pillows are comfortable and the air con is great. A few bottles of water are given every day. There are plenty of lifts that are fast meaning you never wait long for a lift. Cons - the rooms are incredibly dated and contain mould around the ceilings, bath and shower area. The finish of the rooms is careless - for example tile grout is sloppy and paint is not neat. The fridge is full of minibar items so to use with own items such as water these have to be removed. Coffee pods for coffee machine are chargeable! Free coffee sachets and teabags are available to use with the kettle. Our room on the 14th floor had a lovely view of the water and fishing boats but also a very busy noisy bridge. There is no balcony so it is difficult to air clothing etc - a clothing line hangs across the bath but items do not dry. The pool area on the 2nd floor is spacious however the sun disappears behind the large galleria building around 1.30pm so for anyone who wants to sit out in the sun it’s not possible after this time. The free shuttle bus to the mall and beach is good however almost always late pickup due to Dubai traffic. The bus drivers are quite aggressive - swerving in and out of traffic and beeping continuously. The concierge area out front is chaotic - they do not help you to obtain a taxi or with doors etc. Every day/evening we would be approached by private taxi drivers who do not like to take no for an answer, hotel staff simply ignore this! On several occasions we witnessed women “for hire” in the lobby etc - it appeared the hotel turned a blind eye to this. We seen the same man with 3 different women in the space of a few days. The bar and pool bar area are very expensive but that is common for Dubai. The adjacent mall contains a very reasonably priced supermarket and expensive but nice coffee shop/deli, ice cream shop and pizza restaurant. The Carpenters sports bar is expensive and smoky although we had some tasty food here. The Helios Greek bar on the 30th floor of the Galleria is a sun trap for afternoon sun when it disappears from the pool area, the food/drink from here is tasty but incredibly expensive. The views are great but the pool area is for residents of the galleria only so to benefit from the sun you have to pay the prices they ask! On a few occasions our room was not serviced whilst we were out all day - they would then come to the door when we returned to our room at 5pm and this was not a convenient time - meaning our room was not serviced until quite late in the day. The gym was to be worked on from Monday 11th however we found on Sunday 10th most of the equipment was removed. Overall it’s the lack of attention to detail in comparison to other top rated hotels in Dubai that mean we would definitely not return here. It should be made clear there is no sun at the pool area after 1.30pm, the concierge should pay more attention to guests arriving and leaving. The rooms should be serviced in a timely manner particularly when available from at the latest 10am every day! If you are looking for a large budget hotel and don’t mind having to use taxis/metro to get around then this will be ok. If you want luxury, lots of sun, attention to detail and calmness/quiet then this hotel is DEFINITELY NOT going to help you achieve that!

I have stayed at this hotel for years, several times a year. This time, however, I noticed a severe decline in service and attitude, which makes me sad and forces me to choose another hotel for my next visit. For my first stay in November, I arrived at midnight and it took a whopping 35 minutes to have me checked in properly. The receptionist did acknowledge my wish for a room with no connecting door and even confirmed she saw it on her computer, nevertheless sent me up to a room with a connecting door without saying a word. What's up with that? When I came down to change rooms, this took a very long time and when I was sent up again, the key cards did not work. So I had to come down a third time, and finally after 35 minutes of back and forth, after a long flight, I was in my room. Just wow. On departure, I wanted to leave one of my bags at the hotel for a few days as I would be returning again after my brief visit to Africa. This has never been a problem, however, this time it was quite impossible for whatever reason. As the receptionist could not handle it, I asked to speak to a manager, who was unavailable, of course. I went for lunch in the hotel restaurant and asked that they send the manager there whenever they are available. They promised, but guess if anyone ever came. In the end, I met with the most uninterested "manager" ever who did not even try to be of any help. Perhaps the hotel changed management or ownership and that's what causes all the problems? The hotel pales in comparison with the modern luxury hotels in Downtown, however, this is also reflected in the price, and overall, I have found the hotel to be of good value. The rooms I had have started to show some wear and tear but were fairly large, had a comfortable bed, good-sized desk, huge tv (55”) and free&unlimited wi-fi with good speeds for watching videos etc. Two 0.5 L water bottles were provided free of charge daily, and you get more if you ask. There’s a safe, of course, and what I appreciate is the multi-plug socket so you can charge your devices without an adapter. The bathroom came with a separate bath and shower with good water pressure. I was underwhelmed by the Chinese-made non-branded toiletries. The pool area (7 am–10 pm) comes with a pool bar that also serves snacks. The pool is not the largest in town. They provide pool towels, and there are slippers and bathrobes in the room. The restaurant in the lobby serves great à la carte all day. Portions are large and the prices reasonable. There’s pasta and pizza, European dishes, Indian food, Arabian mezze, anything you like, basically. The butter chicken is my favourite! There is a small shopping mall at the hotel, with a pizzeria and a supermarket open until late. The hotel is located in Deira, a bit further away from the bustling quarters, behind a major road. You can walk to Deira souqs. The metro is less than 10 minutes away on foot. The hotel is only 20 minutes from DXB airport by car.
